Job Description
- Assume administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for nursing service personnel's functions, development, and activities.
- Develop or manage nursing service objectives, standards of Nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, and written job descriptions for all levels of Nursing personnel.
- Recommend the number and categories of Nursing personnel required and assist in their selection, training, assignments, supervision, evaluation, and terminations.
- Ensure an adequate number and level of Nursing personnel are available on all shifts to meet residents' needs.
- Participate in planning, decision-making, and budgeting for nursing care.
- Collaborate with the medical staff and other professional staff members in developing, maintaining, and monitoring resident care policies and procedures.
- Participate in planning the orientation program for new nursing personnel and evaluating the staff development program.
- Establish and maintain a program for counseling and evaluating all nursing personnel regularly.
- Participate in Resident Care Committees as required.
- Coordinate nursing service with other resident care services.
- Establish a system for nursing assessment, treatment plan, objectives and goals, and discharge planning of all residents admitted to the center for care.
- Arrange for a competent registered nurse to assume the duties and responsibilities in the absence of the administrator or when required to assume administrative duties.
- Possess thorough knowledge and maintain a personnel copy of State Regulations, Federal Standards for certification, and Quality Assurance/CQI.
- Responsible for maintaining documentation that reflects residents' health care needs, care and treatment provided, residents' response to care and treatment, and resident disposition.
- Schedule daily rounds to see all residents.
- Monitor nursing staff's attendance and performance, providing follow-up discipline as needed to ensure dependable and knowledgeable resident care providers.
- Monitor resident care and all related services and evaluate with recommendations to other departments through the Administrator to maintain quality service that meets both State and Federal Regulations and Quality Assurance.
- Responsible for completing the nursing portion on forms required by the accounts receivable.
- Approve nursing purchases, and accounts payable for nursing-related items, and maintain the nursing budget.
- Responsible for record-keeping related to resident charges over the basic rate, with input needed for accounts receivable.
- Review and evaluate potential admissions with recommendations regarding the center and staff's ability to provide the specific needs required for the individual.
- Serve on the Patient Care Policy Committee, Pharmacy Committee, Infection Control Committee, Utilization Review Committee, and others as directed.
- Participate and coordinate the quality assurance program.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and new developments in long-term care nursing.
