Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE
The Director of Military and Veteran Affairs will develop programs, processes and procedures which assist in the enrollment growth and support of the student veteran population at Concordia College New York. The Director of Military and Veteran Affairs will be responsible for leading the development of veteran recruiting and supporting a portfolio of programming to support Active Duty military, members of the Guard/Reserves, veterans, spouses and dependents who are prospective students or current student veterans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement effective programs and outreach strategies to enhance Concordia College New York?s reputation in the veteran community
- Design and deliver presentations to groups of prospective student veterans at college/career fairs, community colleges, military bases, veteran?s organizations and other events
- Develop and implement effective recruitment and outreach strategies to increase veteran and active military enrollment at Bronxville campus
- Responsible for lead generation and recruitment of veteran and military population
- Be a subject matter expert in the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), Vocational Rehabilitation Program (Chapter 31), Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30), Dependents Educational Assistance (Chapter 35), Chapter 1606 and Fry Scholarship programs; transferability and programs for spouses for dependents
- Identify and develop opportunities for innovative partnerships with Army and Air Force ROTC institutions, county veteran service officers and community veteran service organizations
- Consult and collaborate with various departments to ensure the needs of student veterans, spouses and dependents are met
- Develop relationships for Concordia College New York to provide academic offerings to active duty military personnel via military tuition assistance programs
- Serve as a VA School Certifying Official (SCO) and liaison to the Department of Veteran Affairs and NY State Approving Agency
- Develop a close relationship with the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency and the Hudson Valley Veterans Consortium
- Work with IT Department to develop an electronic certification process for GI Bill Benefits
- Supervise all Compliance Survey?s and Site Visits by the NY State Approving Agency and Department of Veterans Affairs personnel as needed
- Submit all new academic programs for approval through the State Approving Agency and Department of Veterans Affairs in a timely manner
- Increase awareness in the local community of Concordia College New York?s commitment to the support of veterans via engagement in community events on and off campus with governmental and nonprofit organizations with professionalism
- Collaborate with Marketing Department on the development of recruiting materials, communication strategies and advertising to the veteran community
- Train Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Accounts staff to increase understanding of Military and Veteran students? issues and benefit programs to include transfer credit of Military training
- Organize and promote a schedule of on-campus events for Military and student veterans in conjunction with appropriate staff to include Memorial Day and Veterans Day annually
- Manage and support our chapter of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) at Concordia College New York
- Oversee and lead an Honor Cord program for student veterans to wear during commencement
- Identify, build and operate a campus Veterans Resource Center
- Maintain social media profiles to develop awareness of veterans? affairs programs
- Work towards a goal of earning ?Purple Heart University? status for the College
- Submit annual surveys to GI Jobs Magazine, Military Advanced Education Magazine and US Veterans Magazine for ?Military Friendly? designation
- Become active within regional and national organizations with a key focus on identifying best practices and new technologies to increase Military and Veteran support to include but not limited to:
- Army and Air Force ROTCs
- Council of College Military Educators
- National Guard Association of the United States
- Enlisted Association of the National Guard
- Association of the United States Army
- Military Order of the Purple Heart
- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- American Legion of the United States
- Work with Marketing to engage local print and television media to promote the College?s veteran service programs
- Obtain Certificate for Veterans' Service Providers (CVSP) through Operation College Promise
- Other duties as required and assigned by supervisor
