The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team.

The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is seeking a dynamic, progressive leader focused on developing and executing a Media Relations strategy for MDOT MTA with the goal of publicizing MDOT MTA’s transit services (six modes including local bus, light rail, metro subway, commuter bus, MARC Train, and paratransit/Mobility), programs, and achievements in serving the citizens of Maryland.

The Director of Media Relations is responsible for engaging communications tools and practices to provide strategic oversight of MDOT MTA communications programs, executing media outreach and media events, developing crisis communications support as needed, and creating multi-media communications that positively position MDOT MTA and align closely with its marketing campaigns.

The Director of Media Relations serves in the capacity of Public Information Officer and official spokesperson for the agency and oversees the public affairs and broadcast team. The Director of Media Relations will also serve as host for the agency’s Commuter Connections show.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or other relevant fields.
Experience: Seven (7) years of progressive experience in communications, marketing, or public relations, including creating communication and marketing plans, providing advisement to senior leadership, coordinating with various media outlets, and proven leadership in setting and enhancing communication strategies. Must have strong writing skills and experience in writing press releases as well as writing different types of materials for different audiences. Experience in producing video, web, and social content is a plus.
Experience working in a State government and/or transportation field is also strongly preferred.
Note:
U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
