Summary
The Director, Retail Marketing will be responsible for leading our Retail Brand and Business Strategy and charting Sara Lee’s growth trajectory. The right candidate for this role is as strategic as tactical; and as much of a thinker as a doer. The Director, Retail Marketing will have demonstrated mastery in Brand Management Fundamentals and will seek to leverage a well-rounded skillset, including portfolio strategy, product innovation & renovation, trade promotion optimization, and effective communications to bring our Retail Brands back to life. We are seeking an individual who is not intimated by big challenges but rather sees them as exciting problems to be solved. The Director, Retail Marketing will be the internal owner for Sara Lee Frozen Bakery’s Retail Businesses, including Sara Lee Desserts, Van’s Gluten Free, and Private Label. You will have 1 direct report with potential for more as the business grows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning & Leadership
• Delivers topline growth and ensures delivery of overall retail financial commitments
• Develops and implements three-year strategy while executing an annual operating plan
• Creatively identifies opportunity areas for growth by effectively using consumption data, market research and competitive intelligence
• Collaborates with key cross-functional partners to develop and implement the strategic roadmap inclusive of innovation strategy, promotion strategy, and price pack architecture
Commercial Execution
• Actively assesses and delivers recommendations that maximize efficiacy of promotional spend
• Monitors performance measurements to ensure sales volume, share and profit objectives are accomplished. Recommends and implements corrective actions where needed
• Ensures adherence to marketing and promotional spending for assigned product responsibility, inclusive of Shopper and Trade Marketing funds
• Acts as a liaison with cross functional team members to ensure business initiatives receive necessary focus
• Works hand-in-hand with the sales organization to ensure corporate objectives are met and that our strategies and programs are effectively implemented
• Ensures accurate forecasting to support S&OP proocess
Innovation and Equity Building
• Executes short term innovation pipeline on time and on budget, while building medium and long term pipelines in paralel
o Ensures development and introduction of new products that add value and incrementality to category
• Develops brand strategies that drive preference beyond competitive set
• Builds meaningful consumer positioning for all assigned product lines that creates added value versus competitive set
o Seeks to leverage all components of consumer bundle to ensure we deliver competitive price/value proposition
• Partners with agencies and other suppliers in the development and implementation of Marketing strategies and programs, gaining maximum value from marketing and promotional expenditures
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required. MBA/Advanced degree strongly preferred
• A minimum of 8 years CPG brand management experience is required
• Mix of big and small CPG experience
• Deep understanding of in-store fundamentals with demonstrated experience leveraging trade fundamentals and lower funnel shopper marketing to drive topline growth
• Demonstrated understanding and application of consumer insights
• Experience developing innovation strategy and commercializing innovation/renovation projects
• In-depth understanding of P&L is required
• Strong communication skills (exceptional listening skills, persuasive and professional communicator) are required
• Proven track record in managing and meeting volume and profit targets through scrappy marketing of existing lines is required
