Organization Summary 

Paul Carlson Partnership (PCP) is a 501c3 US-based nonprofit affiliate of the Chicago-based Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). The mission of Paul Carlson Partnership is to catalyze the holistic growth of healthy families and communities in places of deep poverty. Working together with partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), we invest in local initiatives in Medical and economic development. This is primarily with the Covenant Church of Congo, including its medical system of five hospitals, 100+ health centers and two nursing schools. 

Position Summary

Paul Carlson Partnership is seeking a Director ofInternational Medical and Health Programs to join the growing legacy of Medical and economic support to the Democratic Republic of Congo, leveraging his or her experience to give voice to the poor. The director will coordinate a comprehensive set of programs to strengthen the capacity of Medical and public health practice in the DRC with the ultimate objective of raising the standard of health care. This role advances PCP's strategic journey in building strong partner relationships for solutions that endure over time and throughout generations.

Summary of Essential Functions  

Build and maintain healthy working relationships with the PCP staff team, PCP Board of Directors, ECC colleagues, and Congolese colleagues.

Implement PCP's strategic plans, including grants, within US and DRC contexts.

Inspire and supervise volunteer leadership: Medical Steering Team, Medical Ambassadors program, and Medical Ambassador Resource Groups. 

Collaborate with Global Personnel who may help with strategic, focused health care initiatives. 

Formulate timely reporting of data, statistics, and trends (including objectives, indicators, and outcomes) for presentation to the PCP staff, Board of Directors, and ECC events.  

Create, manage, and present accounting and financial documents as needed for specific projects, including project budgeting and expenses.   

Interface with relevant agencies, nonprofits, NGOs, and international agencies, as necessary. 

Participate in building relationship capital and promotion in activities such as donor communication, events, and public relations. 

Uphold the highest standards of Medical and humanitarian practice and behavior; serve the Developing World as outlined by the Humanitarian Charter, the American Red Cross code of conduct and the World Health Organization. 

Other responsibilities as determined by the Executive Director.

Required Education and Experience 

Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years' experience in medical, hospital or public health related fields. 

A minimum of 5 years' experience in programs in a developing country. 

Experience leading individuals and teams within international and US contexts.

Adept at working within a staff team, with donors, government officials, and other NGO entities.  

Working knowledge of French with basic conversational ability acceptable; fluency preferred. Willingness to embrace initial and continuing language learning to achieve effective working levels. Conversational Lingala is a plus but not required.

Talks to others to convey information effectively and efficiently. Responds appropriately and adjusts actions in relation to others' actions. Effectively presents information to audiences with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and contexts.

Mature entrepreneurial and project development skills for program growth and sustainability and project evaluation (both quantitative and qualitative methods). 

Attention to detail with high level of accuracy in the preparation of documents, reports, and correspondence.

Uses critical thinking skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems. 

Works well under pressure and can accomplish multiple tasks, with various priorities and timelines. 

Ability to coordinate and manage logistics for multiple engagements.

Commitment to always operate with discretion and confidentiality.

International travel 15-20% time. 

Willingness to obtain required vaccinations to meet travel requirements. Malaria preventive medicine is required to travel to DRC.  

Travel to Chicago and other US destinations as needed.

Environment Conditions

Must be able to work in office conditions with moderate noise levels. Willing to travel across North America and internationally (primarily Africa). Must be able to work for prolonged segments sitting and/or standing, in various climate conditions, and in various offices. Must engage frequently with technology, such as: computer, copier, phone, online conferencing apps, printers, etc. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items, up to 35lbs.
