Title: Director of CARE (Compassionate Arts Remaking Education)- CLEVELAND
Classification: Full Time, Year Round,
Salaried Compensation: $60,000- $67,500
Location: Cleveland, OH
Start Date: Immediately
Schedule: This position will primarily work Monday-Friday, 9:30-6:00pm with periodic
evening/weekend/early morning hours connected to Cleveland PlayHouse (CPH) CARE Program
Reports to: Co-reports to Director of Education and Artistic Strategy and National Director of
CARE
Supervises: Manager of Teaching Artist Development, Lead Cohort Teaching Artists, Teaching
Artists and associated staff.
CARE is a nationally recognized, replicable curriculum developed in partnership with the US
Department of Education and Cleveland Metropolitan School District. CARE improves school
culture and safety through the use of high-quality digital tools, teacher and teaching artist
training and instruction that integrates Theatre, English Language Arts and SEL (what is SEL) in
trauma-informed classrooms. CARE drama-based, differentiated SEL curriculum that
intentionally incorporates evidence-based literacy activities such as instructional conversations,
oral reading, and interactive shared reading and culturally relevant literature for students
experiencing multiple adverse childhood experiences or chronic trauma leading to Emotional
and Behavioral Disorders (EBD).
The Director of CARE- Cleveland leads all efforts to sustain and replicate CARE in Cuyahoga
County OH. In addition, the Director of CARE is works closely with both the Director of
Education and Artistic Strategy and National Director of CARE to strategically market, fund and
sustain the CARE line of products, including the development of a teaching artist graduate
certificate, to expand the market into Northeast Ohio. This position collaborates with the
Director of Community Development and Director of OST in planning and achieving the mission
of CPH's CARE program, CARE-EBD, "CARE-ing Communities: Theatre and Resilience" and
Classroom Matinee program.
Responsibilities include:
• Work closely with the both the National Director of CARE and the Director of Education
and Artistic Strategies to develop a cohesive and holistic programming plan for all CARE
product lines across Northeast Ohio.
• Work closely with both the National Director of CARE and the Director of Education and
Artistic Strategies to successfully manage the 20+ educational partnerships associated
with the Creative Communities: Theatre and Resilience grant via the US Department of
Education.
• Work closely with both the National Director of CARE and the Director of Education and
Artistic Strategies to successfully develop three major components of the Creative
Communities: Theatre and Resilience grant include CARE, Classroom Matinee/Family
Theatre and PSA campaign, Graduate Certificate program in partnership with Baldwin
Wallace University.
Work closely with the both the National Director of CARE and Director of Education and
Artistic Strategies to develop annual program(s) goals and budget for the CARE in
Northeast Ohio.
• Work closely with the both the National Director of CARE and Director of Education and
Artistic Strategies and Director of Human Resources to hire, develop and retain staff
needed for all CARE programming across Cuyahoga County OH.
• Actively partner with development department to both retain current funding while
research and securing funding to support and enhance program goals across Cuyahoga
County OH.
• Actively partner with marketing department to publicize and effectively communicate
program goals and increase earned revenue streams when appropriate.
• Work in partnership with the the National Director of CARE and to manage the monthly
reconciliation and review of Community-based program related expense reports
received from the business office. Provide Director of Education and Artistic Strategies
with necessary summary information to assist in forecasting conversations and
budgeting.
• Work in partnership with the Manager of Pedagogy to ensure all program goals and staff
properly utilize CPH ascribed pedagogies such as trauma-informed care, culturally
relevant curriculum and restorative practices.
• Work in partnership with the Manager of Compliance to ensure all program
requirements are met across Cuyahoga County OH.
• Work in partnership with the Manager of Partnerships to build deep relationships with
community organizations for the purpose of enhancing and student experience and
participation.
• Ensure all CARE employees have access to and participate in Equity, Diversity and
Inclusion (EDI) planning and training.
• Act as an advocate in public spaces for all Community-based programming at CPH
including but not limited to conferences, public events and speaking events across
Cuyahoga County OH.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
• Master's Degree in Theatre, Education, Community Development required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with staff across the organization and with external partners
• Thorough understanding of best practices and current trends in theatre education
• Working knowledge of current best practices and current in general education
• Culturally aware and experienced incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion best
practices across all platforms
• Must be a strong visionary, with ability to take programs from inception to completion.
• Ability to collect and analyze information, solve problems, and make decisions
• Comfortable working with marketing and development departments to collaborate in
promoting and raise funds for programs.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS INCLUDE:
• Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Education, Non-Profit Management or related field
required. Master's preferred.
• Exhibit a strong commitment to working with life-long learners.
• On-going commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principals, requiring 10 hours of
approved training each year.
• Certification in trauma-informed care and practice or equivalent.
• Comfortable in both collaborative and independent working environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; strong attention to detail.
• Current proof of fingerprinting clearance through the Federal and Ohio State
Department of Education is required for employment.
This position will primarily work in collaboration with: Director of Education and Artistic
Strategy, Director of OST, Director of Community Building to set the vision and goals for the
education department. Additionally, this position will work in collaboration with staff from
Development, Marketing and Human Resources to further the vision and goals of the CARE
and Classroom Matinee program(s).
