Job description

Director of Grants Management
The Arkansas Colleges of Health Education (ACHE) is seeking a full-time Director of Grants Management to function within the Office of the Vice President of ACHE Research, the ACHE Venture Capital Philanthropy Research Fund and the ACHE Research Institute Health and Wellness Center. The Director of Grants Management will work jointly with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer to organize, manage, and coordinate all intramural and extramural grant activities. Within the Office of the Vice President of ACHE Research, the Director of Grants Management will assist faculty, staff, and students with the submitting of grant applications (pre-award) including the development of budgets as well as preparing grant progress reports and budget summaries/audits (post-award) to both intramural and extramural funding agencies. These agencies will be significantly focused upon funding agencies within the public health service (National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation), Department of Defense (DoD) and major foundations related to health care, the Clinical Research Center and basic biomedical science research. The Director of Grants Management will also work jointly with the Managing Executive Director of the ACHE Venture Capital Philanthropy Research Fund to assist in the submission of proposals to major capital fund donors and supporters of major biomedical basic and clinical science funding within the Philanthropy Research Fund.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work together with the Office of the Vice President of ACHE Research and ACHE faculty to identify
  • and successfully obtain Public Health Service (NIH, NSF) and Department of Defense funding directed toward basic and clinical science research within the Centers of Biomedical Science Excellence at the ACHE Research Institute Health and Wellness Center.
  • Work effectively with faculty to develop viable budgetary proposals in compliance with the agency requirements and requests for proposals.
  • Coordinate and manage research grant activities to track budgetary requirements and assist with timely progress reports and post-award budgetary compliance.
  • Work jointly with the Executive Director of the ACHE Venture Capital Philanthropy Research Fund to identify significant individual, corporate and foundation prospects to support the Philanthropy Research Fund and the ensuing biomedical research activities.
  • Perform financial management of a portfolio of internally and externally awarded grants, including analyzing grant expenditures, reconciling funds/accounts, coordinating with investigators, and preparing monthly expenditure reports.
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform administrative and support activities for all grants and contracts housed within ACHE.
  • Coordinate and aid principal investigators (faculty, staff, students) on requirements for application approvals of Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and other compliance areas.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of ACHE Research or their designee.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and three (3) or more years of experience in business management, public administration or grant management administrative services or equivalency.
  • Experience working and coordinating Grants Management activities within a team-oriented environment.
  • Detail oriented work capacities.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks with accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Strong background and experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and ability to adapt to multiple grant software modalities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference to applicants with grant accounting and research administration experience, including budget development and management, procurement, and human resources activities and systems.
  • Experience working with software focused on Grants Management and extramural grant accounting practices.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office.
  • Display professionalism for the college in all communications and interactions.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with diverse groups of people within the scientific environment and community at large.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
  • High-energy, versatile, self-directed.

  • May be required to transport oneself to other campus offices, conference rooms, and on occasion, to off-campus sites to attend meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.
  • May require significant travel or work away from campus.
  • Requires attendance at events representing ACHE both within as well as outside of the college setting.
  • Frequently required to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • Frequently required to see for purposes of reading matter.
  • Frequently required to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Occasionally required to lift items in a normal office environment.
  • Frequently required to operate office and presentation equipment.
