Position Description:

The Director of CCS’ Global Engagement Office (GEO) works with the wider campus community to build a welcoming, supportive and informative system of services and supports for CCS’ international students.
The Director develops and plans cultural awareness activities for the campus community and ensures international students understand the services, offices, and opportunities open to them on campus and in the larger community. The Director manages the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) with Visa and CPT/OPT certifications, serves as the College’s Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Official (RO) for the Department of Homeland Security SEVIS database and ensures compliance with federal immigration regulations. The Director communicates regulations and works to ensure students, alumni, faculty and staff understand and comply with federal regulations for F and J Visa holders and their dependents, CPT/OPT, and supports travel documentation needs of international visiting artists and lecturers.
The Director works to strengthen CCS’ brand abroad, identifies and nurtures international partnerships and oversees student study abroad programs, faculty-led programs, student foreign exchange and AICAD exchange programs.  The Director nurtures connections between CCS and our academic partners abroad to support and expand cultural immersion opportunities. The Global Engagement office actively engages, promotes and nurtures community among current and visiting students. This role works collaboratively with CCS’s Admissions, Student Affairs, and Academic Advising and Registration teams, Office of Partnerships (Industry Engagement and Career Development), Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Business Services, various Department Chairs and Faculty, and other key campus offices.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions:
  • Serve as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and Responsible Officer (RO)
  • Maintain the SEVIS database system for international students and exchange visitors on F, and J visas
  • Manage OPT and CPT Procedures and internal policies, and STEM OPT SEVIS records
  • Update the College regarding NAFSA and Department of State information as needed
  • Ensure Institutional compliance with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program
  • Prepare letters of certification for attendance and student status, and work authorization forms for international students
  • Liaise with Office of Partnerships, Career Development team, and outside entities to support and strategize about international student internship and full-time employment placement and alumni employment goals
  • Oversee International Student Check In and document collection at the start of each semester
  • Update the “Handbook for International Students", as well as internal and external websites
  • Maintain the office procedural manual
  • Prepare statistical reports and information on international students for annual IIE Open Doors survey
  • Be an advocate for all international students by providing support through on and off campus resources
  • Develop and implement various workshops for international students on immigration regulations and other helpful information for students who are acclimating to studying in the US
  • Oversee and promote and coordinate Study Abroad and International Exchange programs for CCS students
  • Oversee Faculty-led Programs/Global Experience Courses, lead Pre-departure programming for study abroad students, and confirm placement criteria of credit earned abroad
  • Act as a member of the CCS Travel Risk Committee
  • Work closely with Admissions, Academic Advising and Registration, and Student Affairs to communicate with international students throughout the enrollment process
  • With the Director of Transfer and Academic Partnerships, confirm placement criteria of credit earned through AICAD Exchange programs and to update International Articulation agreements 
  • Act as a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee
  • Counsel out-going and incoming international exchange program students
  • Manage departmental budget
  • Liaise with Office of Partnerships, Career Development team to support alumni employment goals
  • Liaise with Office of Alumni Affairs to support long-term connections with our international alumni
  • Manage Communications messaging and flow of information specifically in support of international Students.
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications and Experience:
  • The candidate must be a United States citizen 
  • Bachelor’s degree required  
  • The ideal candidate will have three or more years’ experience managing SEVP and experience in SEVIS, will have experience working closely with college-age and international students in an academic setting, as well as experience managing an office, staff team, and related budget  
  • The ideal candidate will be sensitive to diverse cultures, a highly motivated self-starter, with excellent organizational, interpersonal, collaboration, presentation and communication skills
  • Experience working with art or design students, or personal experience in art or design preferred.

  • The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places.
  • The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.
