Director of Finance ("DOF")

Vice President ("VP"), with dotted line to Chief Operating Officer ("COO")
SUPERVISES:
Accounting Staff
The Director of Finance is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the provision of accurate, timely, and objective financial data from which informed management decisions can be made for a multi-property hotel/motel operation. A major responsibility includes ensuring compliance with Hotel/Motel financial policies and procedures and all applicable laws. Recommend remedial action when and where necessary and safeguard owner assets by creating and maintaining sound internal control systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports to summarize hotel's current and projected financial position. Support management and hotel financial goals.
  • Oversees the Accounting Staff. Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the accounting department including recommendations for training requirements; hiring of staff and changes in responsibilities for staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all Shore Hotel policies and applicable laws.
  • Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records of all company transactions and assets. Works with the outside C.P.A. to assist in the preparation of all financial reports and tax returns for the organization.
  • Prepares reports that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses and earnings on a regular basis to meet the economic objectives and policies of the organization.
  • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system, fixed asset management) and analyzes and reports variances.
  • Assists with weekly, monthly and annual reporting, including consolidated hotel analytical and statistical reports.
  • Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports to C.P.A., bank and governmental agencies.
  • Responsible for generating internal reports to assist in the evaluation and recommendations for insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
  • The Director of Finance has the final responsibility for providing the organization and its management with the appropriate financial and operating information necessary. This individual and the accounting staff is expected to work closely with other department groups on problems involving accounting systems and financial planning.
  • Among the duties of this position are management reporting and policymaking as it pertains to the department.
  • Ensure the collection and payment of applicable local, state and federal taxes.
  • Is a member of the Executive Committee
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
  • At least 5-8 years of hospitality accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of Accpac database and accounting computer application systems
  • Excellent financial analysis capabilities and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office products
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work with ownership, management and staff personnel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with vendors, public and staff at all levels.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to work productively in a team orientated environment, as well, as independently and to be flexible and responsive.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience in Opera and IDeaS preferred.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance (MBA preferred),

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS:
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to lift and move up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance is critical.
  • Hours occasionally exceed 40 hours per week.
