Job Description
Syracuse University is seeking to hire a Director of Esports Competition on a full-time basis.
This position is responsible for overseeing all Varsity, JV, and Academy levels of competition for the SU Esports Program. This includes but is not limited to registering teams/players for competition, recruiting players for all supported titles, scheduling practice and match times, managing coaches for each title, and assisting with events as needed. This person will be the point of contact for competition and will be on call during all varsity matches. This position is encouraged to engage in teaching esports courses, especially in coaching and leadership, and in helping recruit prospective students to the University and the program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years managing an esports program, preferably at the collegiate level.

Job Specific Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of Esports games, collegiate competitions, culture, and trends.
  • Strong understanding of streaming, broadcast production, and event management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and manage esports programs, leagues, tournaments, and events for students. This includes establishing rules, formats, schedules, and prize structures.
  • Recruit, train, and manage players, coaches, referees, broadcasters, and other staff for esports teams and events.
  • Oversee any necessary player contracts, league rules compliance, and players' academic eligibility. Enforce codes of conduct.
  • Manage the esports facilities, equipment, and technology infrastructure. Ensure all technology and equipment stays current.
  • Assist in developing partnerships with game publishers, sponsors, vendors, and other colleges. Cultivate sponsorships and monetization opportunities.
  • Assist in creating marketing, communications, and promotions plans to grow awareness of the esports program, events, and activities.
  • Analyze metrics, viewership, participation rates, and other data to refine programs and optimize operations.
  • Stay current on esports trends, gaming technology, and best practices for collegiate esports programs.
  • Represent the esports program professionally as the public face to students, prospective students, college administration, partners, sponsors, and at esports industry events/conferences.
