Job description

The Director of Esports is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, and strategic planning in directing and supervising all activities related to the recruitment, teaching, training, and skill development of scholar-athletes including the day-to-day operations of the Esports facility, and Florida Tech Esports program development including competitive, academy, and intramural teams, events and general use and student engagement of Esports and the Esports facility at Florida Tech. This role supports the University's mission of providing high-quality education to a culturally diverse student body to prepare students for entering the global workforce, seeking higher-education opportunities, and serving within their communities, and Florida Tech athletics mission of developing diverse athletes into scholars, champions, and leaders prepared to become global influencers in their relentless pursuit of greatness. Florida Institute of Technology is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) and the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC).
Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the organization, management, and supervision of the Esports Facility including oversight of support staff, student employees, interns, volunteers, and graduate assistants, and the Esports center reservation calendar (coordinating team, center practice, and competition schedules), and maintenance, development, and enforcement of the Esports facility standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Direct the administrative operations of Esports adhering to all athletic and university policies and protocols, documentation, internal and external partnerships, community service, travel arrangements, equipment/supplies upkeep and orders, development, and execution of summer camps and programming for the campus, and community.
  • Supervise the evaluation and recruitment of athletically talented and academically qualified scholar-athletes supporting the University's mission and philosophy in monitoring, overseeing, and supporting scholar-athlete academic success.
  • Coordinate team tryouts, practice, and competition management including determining the best competition for varsity and junior varsity teams, scheduling, and managing membership in leagues and seasons, and as the liaison to the Esports Academy to enrich the casual campus gamer and center experience.
  • Responsible for providing a positive scholar-athlete experience centered on their physical and mental health in the organization and implementation of regular practice sessions and competitions in developing, instructing, and motivating scholar-athletes in fundamentals, techniques, and strategies to achieve a high-level performance individually and as a team.
  • Maintain program compliance with all leagues, conferences, and institutional rules and regulations. Broadcast games to fans with professional quality and university representation. This also includes social media and website updates in a timely fashion.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee the Esports operating budget provided by the university. Develop fundraising activities and events to supplement the budget needs of the program including cooperating fully with the University in promoting the Program, the University's Athletics Advancement fundraising, the University, the University's Alumni Association, and other University-affiliated organizations. Such cooperation includes, but is not limited to, (a) attendance and participation at meetings, events, and media outlets of the University and University-affiliated organizations; (b) endorsement of products and performance of promotional services; and (c) personal appearances, in each case as directed by the Director of Athletics.
  • Assist with oversight of general esports center programming and the development of marketing and promotional concepts for Esports programming and the Center, including implementation and execution to increase participation and attendance at Esports events and center usage by providing information and active interaction and engagement with the Florida Tech campus and community.
  • Demonstrate establishing positive, mutually respectful, and effective working relationships with scholar-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, alumni, and the public.
  • Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to and complying with the policies and guidelines established by the Federal Government, University, Athletics Department, NCAA, and Sunshine State Conference (SSC) for conducting all program activities including but not limited to:
  • The University has established a tradition of ethical conduct at all levels of university life. In accordance with this tradition, the Director of Esports as a member of the Athletics Department agrees to always represent the University in an honorable and ethical manner. Standards for ethical conduct are established and enforced by the University, Florida Institute of Technology, the SSC, and the NCAA.
  • The Director of Esports will be a Campus Security Authority ("CSA") as defined by the Clery Act. As a CSA, the Director of Esports will comply with university policies on the reporting of crime statistics and related information to the official designated by the University for the purposes of Clery Act reporting.
  • In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Assistant Director of Esports will be a Responsible Employee as defined by University policies on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, a Responsible Employee, the Director of Esports will report incidents of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) and other inappropriate sexual conduct to the University's Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate designees as required by University policy.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Sports Management, Sports Facilities, Coaching or other athletic-related discipline. Master's Degree preferred.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

Official Transcripts
Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Office of Human Resources prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
