Job Description
This position serves as the Campus Diversity Officer (CDO), collaborating in a team-based environment with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop community outreach, student success and employee retention strategies designed to increase engagement and success of under-represented populations. This position is also charged to develop and lead the College's Equity 2030 strategies to develop diversity and equity initiatives and training to ensure an inclusive and equitable climate that provides genuine opportunity for participation and success to every student and employee. This position also manages and oversees the DEI unit for the College, which includes basic needs, disability services, international student advising and veteran services for the College and reports directly to the President of the College. This position maintains confidentiality of private information according to laws, rules and policies and procedures while working with sensitive personal information. The position requires the ability to travel (approximately 20% of time) and work some evenings and weekends as needed.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and coordinating initiatives and activities to promote diversity, equity and Inclusion throughout the College.
  • Provide an active, visible presence as an advocate for diversity, equity, and Inclusion on the campuses and in the community.
  • Provide oversight and engagement for student support services related to diversity, equity, and Inclusion.
  • Lead, supervise, and direct the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion unit in the College.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and populations, and with programs and activities related to diversity, equity and Inclusion
  • Ability to use and apply technology resources and computer software
  • Effective writing and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate studies or credential in a related field.
  • Experience conducting and facilitating training and teaching.
  • Experience in a higher education environment and familiarity with the mission of a comprehensive two-year public community college
  • Demonstrated intercultural competency skills and knowledge of contemporary issues related to diversity, equity and Inclusion, and a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and providing an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment, especially with individuals of diverse backgrounds and all stakeholders in the college and community.
  • Supervisory experience and proven management and planning skills
  • Knowledge of affirmative action, Title IX and Minnesota State policies and practices, and local, state and federal policy and procedures regarding including but not limited to: Federal INS, SEVIS rules and regulations; and policies of EEO and ADA.

Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
