Position: Director of Consumer Loan Servicing - Lending
Department: Loan Operations
Reports to: Vice President/Consumer Lending
SUMMARY
Responsible for managing the Loan Operations Division of the Credit Union. Works directly with the VP of Consumer Lending & Chief Lending Officer to set the strategic direction of Consumer Loan Operations Servicing, Financial Counseling, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records for the Credit Union. Develop and implement best practices in loan operations and servicing related processes and procedures and develop key risk indicators. Proactive leader and team player with the ability to be influential and establish positive working relationships across the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for overall management of the Loan Operations, Financial Counseling, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records, including but not limited to interviewing, selecting, and hiring employees; scheduling, assigning, training, and directing work; evaluating performance; coaching, counseling, rewarding and disciplining employees; recommending employees for transfers, promotions, and terminations; strategic planning; participating as a member of the senior management team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Corporate responsibility for and oversees the work of Loan Operations, Financial Counseling, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records departments.
  • Manages the department operational budget; develops, proposes, gains acceptance for, and implements strategic plans designed to meet the credit union's short-and long -term lending objectives.
  • Serves as Executive Sponsor for strategic projects ongoing at the Credit Union.
  • Works closely with IT, PMO, Finance, ERM, Marketing, Retail, MCC, and HR to build and maintain a "best in class" Loan Servicing shop.
  • Member of the Senior Management Team, Asset Quality Committee, and Disaster Activity Working Group
  • Stays up to date on industry trends as related to Loan Servicing.
  • Networks with other CU's to identify and implement "best practices".
  • Successfully interacts with all areas of lending to improve accuracies and efficiencies.
  • Establishes and ensures the implementation of target goals for the department. Monitors and reports progress on goals to ensure quality assurance is met.
  • Responsible for seeking refinement opportunities in all areas of loan operations.
  • Implements clean-up procedures and corresponding changes when necessary and as appropriate.
  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with vendors and all senior management team members to ensure there is an open channel of communication and that credit union processes are efficient and provide quality service to internal customers and the membership.
  • Ensures the development of department managers, which includes maintaining a professional image, workspace, and developing their management skills with relevant seminars or workshops.
  • Overseas the hiring, retention, promotions, transfers, terminations and other changes in status of assigned employees within the Card Services, Loan Operations, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records departments. Maintains a well-trained, highly motivated staff.
  • Implements operation policies and procedures to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and internal compliance requirements.
  • Prepares reports for management and Board of Directors as directed.
  • Interacts with auditors, loan review, compliance, and examiners to assist in credit union reviews and examinations. Follows up and corrects any items addressed and ensures necessary changes or recommendations have been implemented as directed.
  • Communicates with management team to coordinate system and control activates related to loan documentation and monitoring.
  • Responsible for risk management of Card Services, Loan Operations, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records. Scope includes risk self-assessments and ensuring a satisfactory internal control environment.
  • Responsible for adequate DR procedures for all departments.
  • Responsible for Vendor Management in Loan Operations, Financial Counseling, Titles/Insurance, and Member Records. Scope includes contract negotiation, contract renewals, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Reviews, approves or rejects invoices for budgeted items/incurred expenses, such as mileage reimbursements, presented for payment by department employees.
  • Researches computer concerns in order to maximize the capabilities of the credit union's system.
  • Uses leadership skills to routinely and effectively coach staff to meet personal, departmental, and organizational goals, including documenting and tracking progress and results.
  • Represents and promotes the credit union at external functions.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by VP of Consumer Lending or CLO
  • Back up loan operations staff as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor'sDegree with a major in Business or a Business Discipline (e.g. Economics, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Human Resources etc.,) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience and Other Requirements:
  • 5-10 years of experience in financial institutions, loan operations experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years management/leadership experience preferred (leading large projects, managing metrics and delivery to KPIs).
  • Broad, overall working knowledge of financial institution operations required, institutional knowledge of Keesler Federal Credit Union preferred.
  • Must develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of Symitar System, Synergy, and Loans PQ.
  • Must be knowledgeable of all loan operations processes.
  • Must be able to handle members in an assertive and tactful manner and be able to handle complex member inquiries.
  • Must process the ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, management, various agency personnel, and vendors.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required with ability to interact with all levels of employees, managers, volunteers, members, vendors, and the general public.
  • Must be able to handle members in an assertive and tactful manner and be able to handle complex member inquires.
  • Know the business including policies, procedures, and compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Must process strong computer skills.
  • Must be able to manage a number of priorities simultaneously, establish and meet deadlines, coordinate activities with other departments, and perform job with accuracy and attention to detail.

Computer Skills:
  • Extensive use of personal PC and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
  • Experience with e-mail software and use of the Internet required.

Interpersonal Skills:
The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position. Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting departments or divisions.
