JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Office of Professional Graduate and Executive Programs in the Smeal College of Business at The Pennsylvania State University (University Park, PA) is seeking a Director of Client Development to grow our Executive Programs team.
The Director of Client Development for Penn State Executive Programs will focus on creating, managing, and growing long-term relationships with corporations, organizations, and individuals. In this role, the Director will act as the key liaison between clients and Penn State as they focus on increasing brand awareness and growing the client base for professional development programs offered through Penn State Executive Programs. Additionally, the successful Director will explore potential synergies that leverage professional development programs and certificate/degree opportunities for professional learners interested in lifelong learning with Penn State.
The ideal fit for this position is a team player who is a strategic thinker, well organized, creative, energetic, and is passionate about working with leaders to create transformational, strategic professional development programs and to create awareness of graduate programs that develop professionals at all levels. The Director will work with leaders within client organizations to understand the strategic goals of the organization, identify resources to provide solutions, and collaborate in the development of learning initiatives to address the client's strategic imperatives. This position will report to the Managing Director for Executive Programs.
Responsibilities Include:
- Taking a consultative approach, the successful Director will assess and explore strategic business issues within a new and existing client base in efforts to solve problems through the design and execution of professional development programs and services
- Develop and implement targeted business plans and a pipeline for clients
- Identify and develop learning focused relationships with regional, national, and international organizations in a variety of industries and locations
- Collaborate with learning designers, faculty, and expert practitioners to ensure programs align with client objectives and audiences and exceed quality expectations
- Generate targeted proposals and deliver presentations to influence supplier decisions at the highest levels of Client organizations
- Participate in the design, launch, and follow-up for innovative learning projects
- Work with the leadership team to proactively identify opportunities and potential risks, and develop strategies to address accordingly
- Maintain an awareness of industry trends and changes in professional development; modify strategy as needed
- Able to travel to and champion Smeal at recruiting or client events throughout the year
The ideal candidate will possess/demonstrate the following:
- Previous experience in organizational learning, management consulting, or leadership development markets
- Proven track record in new business development and experience in a complex business development role, preferably within professional development, consulting, or commercial corporate training markets
- Executive presence and experience interacting and influencing senior executives
- Natural team player with the ability to engage with all levels of professionals and a diverse clientele - while having fun at work
- Demonstrated practice in consultative selling and relationship building
- Excellent communication skills - written, verbal, and presentation
- Strong organizational / managerial skills
- Ability to multi-task and cope well under pressure
- Strong negotiation and influence skills
- Energy, drive and an entrepreneurial approach to work
Education and Experience:
This job will be filled at a level commensurate with the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus at least six years of related experience, with a master's degree preferred.
Additional information:
The ability to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally is required (varies by projects, 20-25% is expected). This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
This position has the potential to work remotely with regular trips to University Park, PA. Residence in the mid-Atlantic preferred.
