The Kinkaid School seeks a dynamic, innovative Director for the new Center for Wellbeing and Success starting in July 2024. As a member of the school-wide Administrative Team and reporting to the Assistant Head of School, the director will coordinate programs for Wellbeing and Success, teach classes, and facilitate and implement community wellbeing initiatives. The Director will advise the Head of School and the senior administrative team on all matters about student physical and emotional Wellbeing and will provide guidance and support for division-specific programs, working in coordination with Division Heads, the Director of Visual and Performing Arts, the Director of Athletics, and the Director of DEI.
The Kinkaid School is a co-educational non-sectarian day school enrolling over 1,450 students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Located on a sixty-five-acre campus in the heart of Houston, Texas, the School offers a thriving intellectual community in the midst of a vibrant, urban, diverse culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promote, align, plan, coordinate, and direct a variety of Wellbeing and Success programs serving students, families, faculty, and staff
- Develop, implement, and teach 2 Middle or Upper School wellbeing courses
- Supervise wellbeing classroom instructors
- Collaborate with Lower, Middle, and Upper Schools to align Wellbeing and Success curriculum and initiatives
- Coordinate counselors, learning specialists, and others supporting student Wellbeing and Success
- In association with the Parents’ Association, develop and implement opportunities to support Wellbeing and Success, including the Health Wellness Parent Education program
- Confer, advise, and coordinate with the Administrative Team on areas related to the Center
- Engage with the school community by attending school events
- Participate in additional opportunities related to Wellbeing and Success to engage with students
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a health-related field (required)
- Master’s degree in health education, public health, social work, counseling, or a related field (preferred)
- The ideal candidate will have experience designing and implementing curricula and student programming and a love for teaching and mentoring children
- Significant knowledge of early childhood and adolescent development (physical, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional), health, mental health, substance use/abuse, and reproductive health
- Experience teaching health and social emotional learning and implementing wellbeing programs, ideally to children and their parents
- Experience with implementation and evaluation of wellbeing curriculum/wellbeing-related issues
- Experience working with and creating content that will engage a diverse community
- Commitment to collaboration with colleagues and an enthusiasm for working with students, parents, and faculty
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, for a variety of audiences (e.g. parents, students, staff, other agency personnel, and public presentations)
- Collegial, energetic, and engaging personality
- Eagerness to grow professionally and remain current within the field
