The Director of Athletics and Activities shall develop, coordinate, and supervise both activities and athletic programs that are consistent with the philosophy of the school district. In the performance of every function of the position, the Director of Athletics and Activities is directly responsible to the principal and in every case act in the name of the principal. The Director of Athletics and Activities may delegate any function which they deem consistent with the job specifications to the Assistant Athletic Director (Middle School) with the approval of the respective Principals. The Director of Athletics and Activities has supervisory responsibility for those employed in the activities and athletics program.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Sports Management or similar strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as Assistant Athletics or Activities director strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience as head or assistant coach required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation, listening and observational skills.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills including the ability to plan and manage projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, volunteers and school administration from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to navigate challenging situations with discretion and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Passion for bettering the lives of students, staff and our Chichester community.

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR US:
includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Prepare a master budget and supervise equipment inventories and submit athletic expense request sheets for payment of officials and other workers to district office.
  • Secure and file the paperwork for equipment lease requests involving the athletic department.
  • Prepare a master sports calendar that includes conference and non-conference games/events which includes seeking recommending suitable competition for all non-conference events/games.
  • Coordinate gym, building and athletic field use with the district office and maintain the district building use calendar.
  • Coordinate gym use for practices and games and give final clearance for the use of either the gym or the athletic field.
  • Work with coaching staff and transportation supervisor to schedule all athletic departure times and provide bus supervision with trip sheets.
  • Take care of travel arrangements and overnight accommodations for players or athletic teams (and coaches) competing in postseason competition.
  • Hire all officials for 7-12 and non-conference contests and confirm official’s contracts and all non-conference contest contracts.
  • Secure game workers for athletic contests, chain crews, announcers, clock operators, score keepers, line judges, etc. and submit the list of contacted workers for that contest to the event supervisor prior to the event.
  • Coordinate the collection of rosters for program information as needed.
  • Act as a resource person and coordinator for all coaches.
  • Assist in supervision at home athletic contests.
  • Assist in the hiring of coaches/sponsors for the athletic/activities programs.
  • Evaluate all athletic programs on an annual basis and make recommendations for improvement to the building principal and district administrator.
  • Complete an evaluation meeting and hold a conference with all coaches within three weeks after the conclusion of their sport season.
  • Mediate the resolution of problems, issues, and concerns that may arise between coaches and athletic programs.
  • Provide a channel through which students and the community may express their concerns about an athletic program.
  • Provide for in-service of coaching staff as needed.
  • Disseminate PIAA materials and enforce PIAA rules and regulations, including player eligibility, along with the school athletic code.
  • Collect, file, and notify athletes and coaches regarding student eligibility as it pertains to the PIAA physical cards and athletic code of conduct.
  • Attend and participate League and PIAA Meetings
  • Participate in seeding meetings and performing sport-specific responsibilities with scheduling transportation and meets.
  • Represent the building at out-of-building committee meetings for the following: district athletic activities and other committees as assigned.
  • Help with the organization of Sports Medicine Program provided by the Athletic Training services.
  • Work with coaches on the distribution of letters, chevrons, captain stars, awards etc.
  • Order Post season awards for each program.

EVALUATIONS

Performance shall be evaluated by the High School Principal on an annual basis.

Starting Salary: Based on current CAA Agreement, Starting salary $85,000
