Natchaug Hospital is Eastern Connecticut’s leading provider for children, adolescents and adults with mental illness and substance abuse addictions. We offer a variety of programs including inpatient and outpatient behavioral health, residential treatment for court-involved teenage girls, older adult services, clinical day treatment schools and chemical dependency services. Position Summary:

The Director of Ambulatory Services has responsibility for the operations and clinical programing of all Ambulatory Services at Natchaug Hospital which include PHP, IOP, OP levels of care as well as the psychology department.  The Director is responsibility for the planning, management and oversight of Ambulatory services as well as identifying opportunities for growth and operationalizing any approved opportunities. The Director is a member of the Natchaug Leadership team and works in collaboration with the Associate Medical Directors in the Ambulatory service and the Director of Inpatient Clinical Services.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Directs the development and expansion of program services, identifies market needs and steers the process towards pursuit of market goals and opportunities ensuring that systems are in place so the programs meet relevant licensing and accreditation standards
  • Works through the executive team, management team and medical leadership of Natchaug, serving as a resource to help reduce costs, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization, and quality goals and objectives, analyze and utilize information to develop and support management decisions
  • Achieve goals for revenue cycle performance and for the overall financial performance.  Oversees authorization denial and collection processes to ensure maximization of revenue and to ensure clients receive appropriate clinical services
  • Provide leadership and management for direct reports, including staff training and development, allocation of staffing resources, work flow management, performance monitoring, pro-active problem resolution and corrective action when necessary, in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments, divisions, medical staff leadership, faculty and other affiliated services (inside and outside of the hospitals) to ensure an integrated approach to providing services, and fulfilling the hospital’s access and growth objectives
  • Responsible for managing budget within established guidelines; including allocation of resources, overtime utilization and approval
  • Ensures that standards of efficiency of intake and service provision are met to maximize revenue and achieve budget goals
  • Ensures that client records are timely and thorough, incidents are well documented and reported according to Joint Commission, DCF and other regulatory guidelines
  • Ensures efficient intake and admission processes, including referral source liaison and development to create seamless and accessible access to Natchaug’s Ambulatory Services
  • Monitors and reports key quality improvement indicators and develops strategies for attaining Quality Improvement goals.  Designs, oversees and participates in Quality Improvement activities

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in behavioral health is required
  • Five plus years of experience working with a behavioral health population
  • Two plus years in a leadership position
  • CT licensure as a LCSW, LMFT, APRN, PA or Psychologist is required
  • Experience with chemical dependency population preferred
  • In-depth understanding of psychiatric levels of care and regulatory requirements
  • Experience with creating a strong referral network
  • Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
  • A creative, forward thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders
