Job Overview
This high impact role leads the commercial contracting function for procurement of technology, digital, and cybersecurity products and services. You will manage a team that supports thousands of transactions and billions in corporate spend annually, advancing critical corporate initiatives and safeguarding the company against significant third party risk. As a key leader in the T-Mobile Legal Affairs Department, you must be a passionate, experienced transactional and strategic business advisor. You will be expected to both define internal practice standards and jump directly into complex strategic negotiations. This role requires an experienced technology lawyer, fluent in technical and legal concepts, who can confidently, independently, manage executive relationships and creatively support business demands, handle complex deals, advise on disputes and unstructured problems, and establish best practice legal terms for rapidly evolving technologies, including AI.
This role also requires a leader and influencer, who will maintain client relationships with cross-functional leaders across IT, Cybersecurity, Data Management, Transformation, Procurement, Finance, Legal and other functions, and advise on functional strategies and legal and strategic matters. Finally, this function will have a pivotal role driving process and digital transformation in Legal Affairs and across the Enterprise, with a focus on improving efficiency, reducing costs, and responsibly implementing automation and AI in our in-house advisory practices.

Un-carrier® Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team providing legal advice on complex technology contracts.
  • Independently prepare and present materials to senior executives.
  • Rapidly develop strong understanding of complex commercial structures and business priorities.
  • Define and implement strategy, including reimagining the team’s knowledge management, contract review, and client service processes, and responsibly push the limits of automation and AI adoption within the technology procurement commercial contracting function.
  • Play a key role for Legal in enterprise digital transformation efforts related to contracting and third-party risk management, with a focus on driving process efficiencies for the Legal Affairs Department and the Enterprise.
  • Negotiate high value and complex transactions with business critical and strategic suppliers.
  • Advise on disputes, unstructured problems, new products and programs, and cases of first impression.
  • Communicate with software engineers and other technical experts to understand business objectives and practically optimize contracting outcomes.
  • Become an AI expert and lead establishment of best practice legal terms with suppliers of AI technologies. Keep pace with market standards.
  • Collaborate with peers in compliance, litigation, privacy, government affairs, and other areas of the Legal Affairs Department to ensure appropriate Legal functions are looped in on “need to know” matters and aligned on contracting practices and risk controls.
  • Leverage deep practical experience and sound business and legal risk judgment to decide what contractual business and legal risks merit escalation to senior business leadership.

The Experience You’ll Bring

  • 10-15 years post-law school professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experiencing managing and developing teams.
  • Demonstrated experience making strategic and risk balancing decisions and advising senior executives as to same.
  • Demonstrated experience managing digital transformation or knowledge management programs in a corporate context (legal or otherwise).
  • Demonstrated experience defining measures of success and using data to establish and demonstrate measures of success (e.g., KPIs).
  • Experience building and staffing programs that deliver timely results.
  • Management consulting or M&A experience a plus.
  • Experience working with or in Legal Operations.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated experience (including references) acting as a trusted advisor to business clients.
  • Experience working in-house or in a management role at a law firm.
  • JD from an accredited University.

Washington Pay Range : $202,700.00 - $274,300.00 The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range. At T-Mobile, employees in regular, non-temporary roles are eligible for an annual bonus or periodic sales incentive or bonus, based on their role. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year. Certain positions in Customer Care are eligible for monthly bonuses based on individual and/or team performance, while Retail and Business Sales roles are eligible for monthly or quarterly sales incentives.
