• Guiding and supporting funders: Our Global Services provide funders with comprehensive resources to assess, build, evolve, and execute high-impact climate-giving strategies. Our Global Intelligence service equips funders and the climate community with climate insights to pinpoint opportunities for impact and philanthropic insights to help identify investment priorities. We facilitate Global Collaborations that enable funders to increase individual and collective impact. Our Global Grantmaking services enable funders to invest in climate solutions around the world.

Department Summary
The ClimateWorks Programs Team drives innovation and climate solutions that scale. Through our portfolio of global and transnational climate mitigation strategies and grantmaking, we help funders maximize their philanthropic impact. ClimateWorks supports climate change mitigation efforts from early explorations to scaled initiatives. We help develop innovative and high-impact solutions, fund their implementation, and scale up those that show the greatest promise.
The ClimateWorks Programs Team is nearly 60 strong and growing. It includes 12 senior experts (Program Directors and Strategists), each of whom engages partners in many countries to advance climate solutions globally. Program Summary
The Global Energy Transition Initiative is a customized partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies and ClimateWorks Foundation, with a single mission: to deliver high-impact and immediate actions to drive a country-level transition from coal to clean energy that is in line with the global 1.5 °C pathway.
Since the inception of this partnership in late 2017, Bloomberg Philanthropies and ClimateWorks Foundation have supported a broad spectrum of global and in-country partners to overcome economic, political, technical, and social challenges to shift away from coal to clean energy. Since 2022, the Global Energy Transition Initiative has covered more emerging and developing countries in Asia, Africa, and South America and has expanded its strategies from increasing climate ambition to implementing the clean Energy Transition.
With key partners from these countries/regions, the priorities of the Global Energy Transition Initiative are to:

• Shape and implement robust country-specific coal phase-out and clean Energy Transition pathways in line with the global 1.5° C scenario.
• Leverage international and regional initiatives to scale-up clean energy investments and end new coal pipelines.
• Support the advancement of open-source data, policy research, and analytics to inform and empower the energy community and strengthen countries’ and non-state actors’ net-zero accountability.

Director, Global Energy Transition Initiative
ClimateWorks is seeking a Director for our Global Energy Transition Initiative. This person will have a commitment to excellent program operations and management practices, along with experience in global clean power efforts. The Director will lead an internationally diverse and remote-based team, putting their philanthropic strategies into action by ensuring team members have the operational support they need to fund the Global Energy Transition. The Director will report to ClimateWorks’ Vice President of Programs. Additionally, this position will serve as the primary contact for operational and strategic coordination with our partners at Bloomberg Philanthropies. 
The central focus of this position will oversee all operations for the team, including managing the initiative’s financial resources, ensuring effective and efficient distribution of funds to grantees, providing cross-team coordination, and strategic grantmaking alignment across the team. The position requires operations, collaboration, and communication skills with a commitment to strong process management. They will also lead the team in ClimateWorks’ internal and grant making processes for this initiative.
The Director will be responsible for supervising a team which includes grant-making and programmatic team members. The Director will be responsible for building a strong culture of collaboration, communication, transparency, trust, encouragement and learning.
 
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Director, Global Energy Transition Initiative will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

 Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

• A commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment.
• Minimum 15 years of experience working on and managing high impact, high budget projects, coalitions, campaigns, and/or programs. 
• A background that includes operational and team coordination is required.
• Past experience that includes serving in an operational leadership position where managing large budgets, supervising staff, building team collaboration, and identifying and problem-solving programmatic needs were a core focus of the role.
• Knowledge about the working and operating environments for grantmaking and grant management, especially in emerging and developing economies. 
•  Managing complex decision making with diverse groups of people. 
•  A global outlook and the sensibility to empathize with, and adjust to, different cultures.
• Experience in the clean energy, Energy Transitions, and climate mitigation community, e.g. philanthropic organizations, international organizations, think-tanks, and NGOs, is a plus.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and communications skills.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Capacity to maintain focus in the face of multiple initiatives, constituencies, and priorities.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently (both virtually and in-person) with minimal supervision.
• Experience and comfort working in a highly collaborative and deadline-driven professional environment.

Compensation and Location
ClimateWorks Foundation offers an excellent benefits package and a starting salary between $160,000 and $180,000, commensurate with experience.
ClimateWorks Foundation is based in the San Francisco Financial District. This is a hybrid position, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Candidates will be expected to work in the office two to three days a week and must be able to work across time zones, especially US West and East Coast, China, Singapore, Burma, Indonesia, UK, and East Africa.
