Job description

Summary/Objective
Manage all areas of the Company's Fleet Operations including the purchasing and maintenance functions. Will have a thorough knowledge of DOT & IFTA regulations and coordinate the adherence of these regulations at each facility.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities generally include the development and administration of fleet standards and vehicle operating policies. Contributes to the preparation of annual capex budgets for new and used vehicles. Develops, maintains and distributes fleet dashboards that report on operating costs and fleet performance; negotiate and purchase of lease vehicles and equipment as necessary; communicate and negotiate with fleet management provider and specific maintenance vendors; and control maintenance, repair, replacement, and disposal of vehicles. Prepare and present trend analysis reports as well as vehicle usage reports.


In addition, the Director of Fleet will direct fleet-related training, such as safety and accident prevention programs. Create driver's manuals or newsletters to keep employees informed about the fleet programs. The Director of Fleet will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining any required DOT permits throughout the Company.

Director of Fleet Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates the operation of vehicle maintenance and repair programs for Company owned vehicles.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates all communication with third-party fleet management company;
  • Prepares and directs in-service training programs for personnel.
  • Prepares and executes short- and long-range plans for fleet related capital expenditures, upgrades, and disposal of Company vehicles.
  • Plans and administers a preventative maintenance and vehicular replacement program for Company owned vehicles.
  • Receives and processes vehicle accident and damage reports.
  • Performs cost analysis and periodic management of operational reports.
  • Develops, maintains and reviews performance dashboards.
  • Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
  • Manages effective utilization of vehicle assets.
  • Conducts fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Evaluates and authorizes all vehicle repair bills by branch by vehicle.
  • Management of functions and activities related to the procurement, servicing, operation, maintenance, and repair of vehicles.
  • Utilizes effective practices and procedures involved in researching, comparing, negotiating, and purchasing vehicles.
  • Ensures all applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to.
  • Administration of insurance policies, accidents, and subrogation.
  • Administers DOT permitting and maintenance.
  • Administers the Pre-Trip Inspection application as well as the GPS/Camera systems.

Director of Fleet Qualifications:

  • 5 years previous Fleet Management Experience with mid-size fleet and of differing vehicle types.
  • Experience coordinating third party fleet management companies and related software.

  • Interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Demonstrated management and organizational skills

Work Environment
This position requires exposure to all seasonal weather conditions, traffic noise, automotive fumes and cramped quarters.

Travel
Travel as needed throughout facilities in Mississippi and Kentucky
