Job Title: Director Field Engineering
Job Code: 106052
Job Summary
Provide direction and leadership to multiple Field Engineering departments across NiSource. Directs Field Engineering delivery of well managed capital program as well as engineering support for operations, compliance and regulatory business partners. Establish strategic organizational direction to achieve annual and long-term goals in line with NiSource's vision and values. Provide coaching, guidance and support to department managers to ensure professional development and to accomplish department objectives. Build and develop strategic internal/external relationships to help achieve organization objectives. Facilitate and encourage the improvement of existing processes, policies and procedures. Monitor and evaluate the performance of the departments to ensure the completion of goals and organization objectives. Collaborate with peers within NiSource to ensure effective solutions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understands the organization vision and values of the Field Engineering department
  • Directs the establishment of departmental operating plan objectives and goals
  • Coach and enable mangers to achieve departmental operating plan objectives and goals
  • Directs Field Engineering delivery of well managed capital program, selection, design and engineering of projects as well as engineering support for operations, compliance and regulatory business partners
  • Provide superior support to our business partners
  • Ensure strong strategic internal and external partnerships
  • Support positive relationships with federal, state and municipal agencies
  • Utilize meaningful metrics to drive performance and ensure accountability
  • Implement effective improvements for existing departmental policies, procedures, and practices
  • Continued and progressive development of leadership team
  • Solve problems, make decisions, and resolve conflicts.
  • Meet O&M budget goals

  • Required Qualifications for Position
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in a utility engineering or operations department for a technical function (at least 2 years' experience)
  • Demonstrated experience in a utility engineering or operations role (at least 4 years' experience)
  • Knowledge of company policies and procedures relative to engineering and operations
  • Working knowledge of NiSource policies, procedures and standards
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and compliance issues
  • Knowledge of gas utility infrastructure (e.g. main, services, measurement, pressure regulation)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills to communicate & collaborate effectively.
  • Demonstrated knowledge & experience in system planning
  • Understanding of statistical principles and their applications
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance regulations
  • Familiarity with common computer applications
  • Highly skilled in the use of Word & Excel
  • Knowledge of Access & Power Point
  • Familiarity with company budgeting processes and systems or equivalent

  • Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
  • Master's degree in Business or Engineering (MBA preferred)
  • Professional Engineering license
  • PMP certification
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in a utility engineering or operations department for a technical function (at least 5 years' experience)
  • Demonstrated competency in budget origination, management and forecasting
  • Understanding of gas supply function & policies and interstate pipeline contracts
  • Understanding of service & tariff conditions to large industrial & commercial transportation customers
  • Thorough knowledge of NiSource compliance and safety issues
