The Position

The Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Controller will have responsibility for developing and executing Organon’s sustainability data reporting strategy to ensure compliance with international (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, International Sustainability Standards Board) and US (SEC) reporting requirements including assurance. The ESG Controller will serve as the Finance point of contact and will closely partner with the Corporate Responsibility, Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), Legal, HR, Business Technology and Procurement functions to ensure integrity of the underlying systems, processes and controls supporting the Company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures. This includes the following:

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Corporate Responsibility, SHE, Legal and other functions to understand, interpret and apply regulatory requirements applicable to the public reporting of ESG data, including providing strategic recommendations to senior management on emerging issues and best practices.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to develop ESG reporting project timelines, workstreams, key milestones, deliverables and resource needs to achieve deadlines for compliant reporting.

  • Coordinate and oversee the double materiality assessment for ESG reporting.

  • Support the cross functional development and/or enhancement of systems and processes to collect, verify, analyze and report ESG data in a way that provides confidence in the integrity of the data for reporting and ensures readiness for audit.

  • Understand and provide guidance on data collection and analysis processes to ensure accuracy, completeness and application of appropriate rigor to calculation methodologies.

  • Collaborate with the Business and Business Technology SOX Compliance leads to identify key controls, develop appropriate risk and control matrices and ensure appropriate narratives. Maintain strong relationships with internal and external auditors and communicate and coordinate the third-party assurance process.

  • Contribute to the preparation and review of ESG-related disclosures in the Company’s regulatory filings.

  • Conduct ongoing benchmarking of ESG and sustainability disclosures relative to our peers, industry trends, and best practices.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.

  • 10+ years of professional experience, including experience in a public accounting firm, or public company external reporting or internal audit department. 

  • Demonstrated experience with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements and financial reporting processes as well as application of internal controls.

  • Understanding of sustainability frameworks (CSRD, SASB, GRI) and ESG-related disclosures. 

  • SAP S4 Finance knowledge.  Exposure to Green Ledger a plus.

  • Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated project management experience in complex cross-functional process and/or system implementations.

  • Ability to drive decision-making, prioritize flexibly, manage change and resolve conflict.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of business and in a global and functional team environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership in achieving shared objectives in a matrix organization and managing cross-divisional initiatives.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Master's and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

  • ESG experience.
