This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing leadership, strategic planning, distribution expertise, coaching/developing skills, and management of strategic relationships to enable the distribution team to develop innovative, cost-effective, scalable distribution systems and processes that enable global growth and generate store/customer level value. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
As adirector distribution, you will…

  • Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
  • Supports the implementation of Company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
  • Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
  • Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with company business goals and objectives.
  • Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.

Business Requirements - Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:

  • Develops and manages the annual budget, contracts and ongoing relationships with third-party logistics providers to improve service levels.
  • Develops and implements the strategic plan for the functional area.
  • Leads the design and implementation of a common distribution process and foundational distribution system across the Starbucks network.
  • Leads the design and implementation of distribution network models that support business decisions for global market growth and distribution, capacity and location requirements.
  • Leads the development and management of integrated cross-functional strategic projects.
  • Works with key stakeholders to drive the development of Requests for Proposal (RFP), bid analyses and contract negotiation with third-party logistics providers, as required to meet distribution or capacity initiatives.
  • Manages strategic relationships with logistics service providers to support business requirements.
  • Provides functional expertise and executes functional responsibilities.

Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:

  • Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
  • Conducts and ensures the completion of performance reviews.
  • Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
  • Oversees training and development of partners directly and indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
  • Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.

  • Distribution facility layout, process design and material handling equipment (MHE) installation (10 years)
  • Strategic planning (10 years)
  • Third-party logistics management, contract negotiation and budgeting (10 years)
  • Warehouse and inventory system implementation (5 years)
  • Food service or food company transportation and distribution operations
  • Managing varied distribution and logistics operations


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes
  • Ability to lead others
  • Project management skills, including measurement, reporting and financial analysis
  • Travel about 30% of the year
