Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Director of Corporate Trade Compliance will be a trusted partner to our seven segments and 84 global divisions as they oversee and continuously improve ITW's Trade Compliance function, with a sharp focus on processes and tools that ensure compliance in all the countries in which ITW operates. The Director will support the trade leads throughout ITW’s global businesses who are responsible for implementing and executing Trade Compliance in a dynamic regulatory landscape. The Director will interact with other members of the legal department, business leaders, external and internal advisors, peers, government agencies, and industry associations to execute an effective compliance program and to gain insight into new legislation that impacts ITW’s products or customers.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of thriving in a rapidly changing environment which is necessary to lead and influence a team and stakeholders in a global business to deliver exceptional results. This role requires working in a dynamic and decentralized environment where partnerships with many different stakeholders sustain lasting results. This leadership position also requires effectively articulating key findings to business partners and senior leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Company’s global Trade Compliance efforts, and develop a sustainable framework for the Company’s global Trade Compliance strategy and culture
  • Effectively communicate Trade Compliance risk and mitigation strategies across a broad range of stakeholders and at every level of the enterprise to ensure compliance and alignment of objectives.
  • Continuously enhance knowledge of global export and import regulations of the US and countries where ITW operates (e.g., EAR, ITAR, WCO, DEA, CWC, CTPAT, and global equivalents). Distill regulations and impact to ITW and support the business to operationalize with procedures and tools to reduce the risk of non-compliance
  • Design and maintain a scalable Trade Compliance manual as a template for the enterprise and train business-level resources on the requirements and guidelines; improve and adapt resources to align with changes in regulations and ITW’s business.
  • Develop and lead education and training programs for internal associates
  • Participate in M&A due diligence studies and lead the integration of Trade Compliance aspects of acquired companies. Establish processes for immediate application of ITW’s Trade Compliance framework.
  • Support and assist with ruling requests, jurisdiction requests, classification determinations, and export licenses for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Direct an appropriate Trade Compliance audit program and oversee corrective action plans.
  • Guide key stakeholders (e.g., Strategic Sourcing, EHSS, and Treasury) on compliance related to new business scenarios and support compliance elements of customer/supplier due diligence reviews.
  • Establish relationships with government officials and oversee interactions between all ITW business units and Customs and regulatory agencies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required with a focus on Business, Finance, on International Trade; MBA/Master’s degree (international trade related) a plus
  • 15+ years related work experience in a Fortune 500 global company and demonstrated knowledge of both domestic and international laws, customs, duties, trade regulations for import/export, ITAR, anti-boycott, international logistics, and other global trade operations
  • Experience developing and implementing a global Trade Compliance program
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, navigate, and show initiative in a fast-paced, high-energy, global decentralized environment
  • Superior interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills
  • Ability to function and communicate effectively at various levels and functions in and across the organization
  • Capable of interpreting laws and translating them into business practices
  • Ability to multi-task responsibilities, prioritize, and delegate effectively
  • Willingness to travel 20-40%
  • This role is located at the Glenview corporate office and general availability in person is necessary to meet the demands of the role.
