Job description

As Director of Core Services Engineering, you will lead teams responsible for our platform services delivering foundational functionality for our next generation SaaS services. These teams provide internal developer tools including infrastructure code, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, customer enablement, identity and access management, and other services to rapidly deliver quality functionality to our customers. Core Services also provides external developers services through our SKY Developer ecosystem, including our marketplace and SKY UX framework so they can create seamless partner experiences for our customers.

As a globally fully remote SaaS organization we are looking for a leader to build strong engineering practices with a DevSecOps methodology. Candidates need a strong technical background delivering SaaS/microservices, experience collaborating with business stakeholders and product teams to set goals/milestones and execute while building teams and leaders that are focused on outcomes and delivery across a board portfolio of products and business needs. What Core Services delivers

  • Platform engineering - Provides services leveraged by internal consumers to rapidly deliver applications to our consumers. Manages these environments in partnership with teams including security concerns, uptime, SLA/SLOs, etc.

  • Developer services - Framework for developers to produce CI/CD pipelines and move ideas through a rapid development process and deliver to customers. Current pipelines produces hundreds of releases a day.

  • Customer Enablement - Facilitates onboarding and lifecycle management of customers and customer users including welcome pages, product catalog, user audit functionality, feature onboarding/feature flags, integration with our internal CRM, and billing orchestration.

  • API Services & Marketplace - Enables rapid development of customer/partner facing APIs with usage tracking and billing. Provides marketplace functionality to allow developers to rapidly deliver to our customers and allows customers to understand and control access granted to these developers.

  • UX Development Framework - Develops the open source SKY UX framework as our customer facing and internal UX development platform. This creates consistency across our products and allows customers and 3rd party developers to create seamless integrations with our products.

Key Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a diverse, high-performing team that develops, recognizes and retains the best people and challenges them to advance their technical and engineering skills to meet the demands of rapidly evolving technologies and to transition from physical to cloud based infrastructure.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to establish technical direction and derive innovative solutions to engineer reliable, scalable, supportable and secure solutions for our customers.

  • Work across teams to energize and scale adoption of our Core Services offerings

  • Lead teams in strategic and tactical planning and in predictably and efficiently delivering on our commitments within assigned responsibilities.

  • Direct daily 24/7 operations of the team; enforcing priorities, monitoring and analyzing operational effectiveness metrics and ensuring problems are identified and solved quickly and efficiently.

  • Navigate and contribute to the intersection of engineering, operations, and security driving automation, process changes, and technology to increase efficiency and reliability.

  • Plan and manage infrastructure budget to ensure expenditure is in line.

  • Effectively plan and manage vendor engagements to expand our workforce capacity as needed.

  • Foster a culture that leverages metrics to make informed decisions and guide change.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of ten years' experience leading or managing software engineering teams, with at least five years delivering SaaS.

  • Experience managing cross-functional software development and operations teams consisting of people managers, 40+ software engineers and architects.

  • Experience managing multiple projects at once with sound time management skills.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership in the areas of software architecture, database design, web development, quality assurance, load testing, and performance testing.

  • Proven track record of delivering high quality releases on schedule and handling the demands of fast-growing teams with multiple simultaneous releases, developing SaaS applications from concept to product launches and ongoing improvement.

  • Experience designing and implementing authentication, entitlement, and permission systems preferred

  • Experience working in or with non-profit organizations is helpful.

  • Available on a 24x7x365 basis when needed for production impacting incidents or key customer events

The starting base pay is $176,800.00 to $224,900.00. Blackbaud may pay more or less based on employee qualifications, market value, Company finances, and other operational considerations.
