Job Description
Position Summary:
The Director is responsible for the management and oversight of several committees, including but not limited to, General Managers, Food and Beverage, Safety & Security and Risk Management Committees (and corresponding networks where applicable). The Director will assist in identifying areas for greater Member Engagement, ideas for industry deliverables and will serve as an essential communications link among committee chairs, committee members, and AHLA staff advisors.
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day management of assigned committees - facilitating committee meetings, driving revenue in coordination with Strategic Partnerships & Business Development team, deliverables and events, and tracking & contributing to an overall balanced committee budget
- Guide committee members to establish (or revise, as needed), document, and distribute mission statements, goals, and deliverables for each committee aligned with AHLA’s strategic plan and will be responsible for executing an aligned annual plan for each committee
- Liaise with the staff advisors and drive cross-departmental initiatives
- Suggest content and oversee execution of high-quality calls & meetings – identify content that should be shared with appropriate member networks (if applicable)
- Lead and execute network calls, align with VP on strategic growth and direction of network audiences.
- Coordinate regularly with co-chairs and members to identify areas for enhanced engagement and member value
- Ensure committee deliverables are documented and executed in a timely manner.
- Present committee goals, activities, and enhancements to supervisor.
- Facilitate effective communication among speakers, presenters, and participants during calls and meetings.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging topics to incorporate into content development.
- Assist in vendor and consultant outreach for Committee projects when necessary.
- Identify areas of committee alignment across Director committee portfolio.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 8+ years in an external member/client-facing role building relationships.
- 4+ years of experience in project management.
- Event programming and/or education content development experience preferred.
- Committee or industry executive management experience preferred.
- Hotel industry experience preferred.
Skills and Attributes:
- Proven strategic experience in membership management, committee leadership, project management or related roles, preferably in a professional association or nonprofit organization.
- Critical thinker who strategically manages relationships with senior executives and identifies opportunities to align with organizational priorities and drive revenue.
- Detail-oriented individual with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; team player with a high level of professionalism, self-motivation, and positive attitude.
- Ability to align members and internal staff to maintain high-quality committee deliverables.
- Experienced computer and software knowledge, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Strong project management skills.
- Customer-service focused.
Other:
- Position based in the Washington DC area.
- Moderate travel is required.
- Rotating hybrid work schedule: In-office Tues-Thurs and Mon-Thurs every other week.
- Salary: $90,000-$100,000
