The Director of the Center for Professional Development is responsible for the administrative oversight of the following School of Education (SOE) programs: Educator Preparation Institute (EPI), Educational Paraprofessional Program, Substitute Teacher Training Program, Certification and Re-certification courses, all SOE Endorsements, grant programs, and the Autism Resource Center for Teachers This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.
This is a temporary grant funded position through June 30 year 2024 contingent upon grantor funding and grant extensions.
This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plans, supervises, implements, and maintains the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the School of Education (SOE) of Miami Dade College (MDC) and the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE)
- Establishes and maintains working relations with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Board and FLDOE
- Collaborates with community relations staff in creating recruitment advertisements for distribution to local radio, newspaper, and the MDC website for its programs
- Develops and delivers recruiting presentations to public schools, private schools, charter schools, and the community at-large
- Reviews student applications to all CPD programs and interviews prospective students, according to each program’s requirements
- Oversees data collection for the EPI program to assure accountability to the FLDOE
- Prepares and submits periodical performance reviews to assure compliance with the FLDOE
- Attends and participates in department, college, programs, and FLDOE meetings
- Writes grants to increase revenue for CPD programs
- Oversees data collection and periodic performance reporting to assure accountability to the grantors
- Provides leadership and supervision to program personnel
- Works with administrators, faculty, staff, and appropriate College committees on curricular revisions
- Collects and maintains documents of transcripts and Statements of Status of Eligibility
- Facilitates the policies and procedures for participants who complete the programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in education or related field and four (4) years experience in a K-12 setting. Minimum of two (2) years administrative experience
- All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
- Must possess excellent writing skills
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Knowledge of office equipment and business practices
- Knowledge and proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
- Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
- Possess excellent organizational, presentation, and communication skills (both oral and written)
- Ability to demonstrate leadership and management skills
- Ability to interact with departments within the College and to represent the College Provost in a highly professional manner
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
- Ability to work a flexible hours to include evenings and weekends as required
