Job description

The mission of the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is to ensure that research conducted by IU and affiliated researchers is not only in compliance with all applicable regulatory, statutory, and organizational requirements, but also meets the standards of best practices while minimizing impediments to research and burdens on the research community.
Job Summary
The Director is responsible for the full operational management of Management Systems for the Office of Research Compliance (ORC). Systems development and management for ORC has a university-wide, enterprise-wide impact, serving all Indiana University campuses and all faculty, staff, and students in regards to research activities and compliance.
Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Directs and manages system integration efforts for the Office of Research Compliance (ORC).
  • Plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of mergers and acquisitions for system integrations for the enterprise Research Compliance systems.
  • Oversees and directs the management of budgets, timelines, and project deliverables for large-scale systems integration.
  • Builds and maintains strong relations with ORC leadership and functional project leads, including internal, external partners and vendors by communicating project updated, risks, and issues to all stakeholders at all levels.
  • Directs the creation of effective deliverables such as project plans, use cases, process flows, testing plans and documentation.
  • Provides guidance to compliance staff and ensure best practices related to data management, security, storage, and regulatory expectations.
  • Manages multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define Business Analysis methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority Business Analysis projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase Business Analysis initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of technical resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
  • Works collaboratively with other Business Analysis Leaders in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures.
  • Conducts research on emerging technologies, services, protocols/processes, and/or standards in support of Business Analysis efforts; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees and task forces related to Business Analysis.

EDUCATION
Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in related field)
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • 4 years experience in related field
  • 1 years of management experience
Preferred
  • 2 years experience related to research administration and/or Research Compliance, and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Knowledge of the systems development life-cycle, including systems analysis, design, and quality assurance.
  • Operations/support experience with enterprise business systems.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Bloomington, Indiana or Indianapolis, Indiana
This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
