Beacon Specialized Living supports children, teenagers, and adults with intellectual disabilities and mental health diagnosis to live as independently as possible. We are currently hiring for full time and part time Direct Support Professional positions to work Mornings, Evenings, Overnights and weekend hours providing support to four youth and adults living in the Apple Valley, Burnsville and Shakopee area. Surrounding areas may include Inver Grove Heights, Saint Paul, Maplewood, Blaine, Forest Lake, South Saint Paul, North St Paul, and many more!
The people living at this program are ranging from ages 10's-50's years and are high energy and like to be out and about exploring their community, joking around, making crafts and generally just staying busy - there is a lot of opportunity to be having fun while you are working!
Some examples of what Direct Support Professionals may do are:
· Helping someone make and maintain friendships by role modeling positive interactions and encouraging inclusion in their local community and places of interest to them
· Teaching independent living skills such as how to keep your home clean, schedule your medical appointments, grocery shop, and budget
· Encouraging people to make choices that are meaningful to them and try new things that may be of interest to them
· Assisting people to make medical appointments, manage their medications, and lead a lifestyle that supports their best health

Qualifications and Skills
Interested applicants should have had some experience supporting individuals with disabilities or mental health diagnosis, and be experienced in HIGH BEHAVIORS using positive interventions and de escalation techniques - or be willing to learn!
Staff should have a drivers license and be able to pass Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Study
