Description

The Direct Consumer Lending Manager oversees the day to day operations of the Direct Lending staff and is responsible for meeting loan goals, policies, procedures, compliance and production relative to the origination, processing, closing and servicing of our Direct Consumer loans.  Manages, evaluates, and coaches the direct lending officers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned as such.

Lending Operations Management

  • Manage the daily operations of the Direct Lending application process and ensure procedures and practices are in alignment with credit union expectations.
  • Research, resolve and communicate operational issues and potential problems to Direct of Direct Consumer Lending and/or other business units.
  • Work with Processing Manager and Director to develop and maintain department practices and policies to ensure efficient operation and adherence to documentation and compliance standards.
  • Possess the ability to identify possible fraudulent applications and work them appropriately.
  • Proactively manages the consumer loan pipeline and processes to in support of timely and accurate loan processing, funding and closing.
  • Plan and conduct regular staff meetings to discuss areas needing improve­ment, changes in procedures, new developments or services and to present general information.
  • Adhere to all lending compliance guidelines.
  • Assist with resolution of audit findings.

Management Responsibilities

  • Manage the Direct Loan Officer team utilizing effective leadership practices focused on effective team performance, serve as a mentor and knowledge resource to the team.
  • Proactively coach direct reports and supporting credit union staff to the expectations of new and existing processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining employee time clock and approving requested leave.
  • Responsible for developing the schedule for the department and maintain employee timeclock
  • Actively work with Director for hiring, supervision, development, training, evaluation and discipline of direct lending officer team.
  • Directs the activities and development of the lending staff.  Coaches interview/sales skills, pipeline management, miss opportunities and provides for the development of skills to enable loan officers to be successful individually and as a team.
  • Responsible for building an effective, healthy team environment and supporting cooperation within the internal lending team and partners in the Indirect Lending area, Real Estate teammates and Retail associates.
  • Effectively documents and resolves performance issues.

Strategic/Service Function Management

  • Embraces, promotes and executes on the strategy and vision of the department as it aligns with the overall strategy and vision of the organization.
  • Active and continual involvement with and support of all Lending services software, forms, processes.
  • Provide Director with strategic plan suggestions as well as goal awards/incentive programs for Lending department.
  • Research and rectify any and all member complaints emanating from the Lending department, and branch network.
  • Ensure Service Level Agreements are adhered to by the Direct lending team, modeling the expected behavior and making process changes to enable effective delivery of service.
  • Actively participate and commit to personal development.
  • Willingly accepts and embraces constructive coaching and feedback.  Shows the ability to access their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Builds rapport with fellow teammates and credit union staff using effective communication.
  • Demonstrate the ability to structure high performing loans that benefit the member and the credit union.
  • Must show the ability to take and resolve escalated calls.
  • Demonstrates strong decision making skills; weighing the pros and cons of the decision, mitigating risk and willingly take responsibility for the outcome.
  • Present a positive, successful image of the credit union through a professional appearance and courteous attitude.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all credit union and dealer/member matters.

 

Qualifications
  • 5 to 7 years of lending experience in a financial institution or related entity preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of lending practices including, but not limited to, fundamental state and federal laws governing Consumer Lending.  Knowledge of Meritrust products, services, policies and procedures.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and conflict resolution skills..
  • Ability to operate a computer, perform mathematical calculations related to the finance industry, be open to training for other systems, departments, processes.
  • College degree or specialized subject matter specific training strongly preferred.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Time management skills must be capable of balancing multiple projects, delegates and delegated tasks at a time.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people skills.
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and establish objectives.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and conflict resolution skills.
