Direct Care Staff

DD ResidentialServices

Part Time: 7:00am 3:00pm

Monday - Friday

must be available for day shift orientation in Tuscaloosa

Competencies:

  • Must be able to work effectively in a group situation.
  • Must be able to work within the organization to serve the needs of consumers.
  • Excellent understanding oftraining methods used in working with the developmentally disabled required.
  • Must be able to lift up tofifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to negotiate several flights of stairs during a shift.
  • Must be able to completetraining to operate/assist with a Hoya lift and other mechanical devices for safe handling of consumers.
  • Must possess excellent verbaland written communication skills.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Provide transportation forconsumers as needed for appointments, errands, and outings. Use of personal vehicle may be required.
  • Work assigned shifts, weekends,holidays, and overnight as scheduled.
  • Document BLS groups and all clinical notes in accordance with agency polices and within 24 hours.
  • Bathe, feed, dress, and ambulate clients to ensure proper grooming.
  • Conduct food inventory twice weekly and as assigned by supervisor.
  • Dispose of expired food.
  • Conduct supplies inventory.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, wipedown surfaces, and generally clean facility.
  • Conduct client trainings as assigned by supervisor.
  • Pick-up client prescriptions from pharmacy.
  • Accompany clients to appointments.
  • Ensure all receipts and monies are returned to supervisor immediately after outing(s).
  • Cook and provide meals according to diet and posted menu.
  • Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communicationlogs.
  • Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner with minimum supervision.
  • Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner,assessing the work area for non-compliance and notifying the supervisor,manager, Executive Director or designee as appropriate, and maintaining training requirements and understanding that training is a required conditionof employment.
  • Maintain the confidential nature of all consumer and Organization related activities by not divulging information outside the facility, discussing information within the facility on a need-to-know basis, acknowledging policy annually by signing confidentiality statement, and by referring media and general inquiries to the Executive Director.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy by allowing adequate time to arrive,clock-in and assume responsibilities at designated time, adhering to meal andbreak times and making timely requests for annual leave and reporting the needfor sick leave in accordance with policy.
  • Comply with all standards related to safety and health by maintaining current TB Test, CPR / First Aid, CPI, and by reporting infections and on-the-job injuries inaccordance with policy.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the departmentand the organization.
  • Must complete MAC training requirements within 3 months of start date (effective March 1, 2014) and maintain MAC certification.
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma orequivalent.
  • Experience working withconsumers with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in a mental health setting preferred.
  • Current Alabama driver'slicense and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers' policy.
  • Must be able to read, writelegibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions: Works in residential facilities; may require long hours.Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate andinteract with other employees, consumers and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use andoperate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to,computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax machine. Must be able to liftfifty (50) pounds and negotiate several sets of stairs in an eight (8) hourshift. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control consumers. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.
