Job description

Scope of the Position:

The primary purpose of the Dining Services Assistant is to assist the Director of Nutrition oversee the performance of day-to-day tasks of the staff in accordance with current federal, state, and local guidelines, and regulations governing our facility.

**PLEASE NOTE** This is a mid-level management position in Dining Services. With that being said, you will be spending about 65% on the "floor" with the rest of the team stocking items, taking inventory, etc. and the other 35% will be spent in the office doing the admin work for this position- staffing, disciplinary items, etc.

Must be available to work every other weekend and every other holiday!

Qualifications for this position:

  • High School graduate or equivalent education is preferred
  • Obtain and maintain ServSafe certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Must possess verbal and written skills necessary to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, residents, family members, and the public.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours in order to supervise a.m., p.m., and weekend personnel, and serve as the on-call to fulfil staffing needs


Essential Functions:

  • Supervise resident meal service planning and programs.
    • Assist in the supervision and/or assist in the monitoring of food temps, portion control, palatability, and attractiveness of food
    • Supervise and/or assist in workflow and sanitary food handling techniques of staff throughout meal preparation and services.
    • Plan and coordinate dietary service functions in cooperation with other departments' traditional community celebrations, activities, or special events.
    • Oversee weekly use and updates of current dining POS program and provide training to new staff.
    • Assist and oversee that the stock is appropriately put away.
    • Maintain new admission information, nd update resident information as needed.
  • Supervise personnel functions
    • In coordination with Human Resources, interview, hire, orient, and supervise assigned staff.
    • Counsel assigned team members on infractions of established rules.
    • Participate in progressive disciplinary action of team members when necessary.
    • Conduct 30,60, and 90 day evaluations. Also provide continuous feedback to staff.
    • Supervise the development, implementation, and help maintain staff work schedules.
    • Plan, conduct, or arrange for food service staff development/in-service training programs.
    • Review timecards, verifying hours worked for bi-weekly payroll.
    • Review and revise department job positions on at least an annual basis.
    • Maintain compliance and instruct assigned staff on various federal, state, and community regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Understand and comply with all policies contained in issued standard manuals that apply to the functioning of the department.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the department inventory control program
  • Understand community's fire and disaster plans.
  • Follow established procedures during drills and actual emergencies.
  • Initiate nutritional initial, quarterly, and annual reviews on all residents according to federal and state guidelines.
  • Complete trainings and other in-services as required by State.
  • Perform other duties of special assignments as directed by the Dining Services Director or Administrator.
  • Provide community with current licensure and record of continuing education.
  • Work with volunteer Coordinator to ensure daily food is prepared and ready for puck-up by volunteers for the Meal Mission program.
  • Assist business office staff with resident catering requests for reserved spaces on campus.

Continuing Education:

The Dining Services Assistant must attend in-service, educational, and on the job training programs as directed. They must also attend continuing education required for maintenance of any professional certification or licensure. Must have the ability to communicate in English via telephone, in writing, and verbally in conversation with different levels of staff, residents, and their families as well as any outside customers.
