Job Summary:
We are seeking a Reporter to join the ABC News Digital team to write Breaking News and general assignment stories that will be published on ABCNews.com.
What You Will Do:
Our ideal candidate is someone with proven experience writing Breaking News for digital platforms. This individual will have a strong sense of how to approach a story holistically – weaving together information from the field, their own reporting, videos, photos and social embeds to build stories that are sharp, informational and highly visual.
- Write Breaking News stories in conjunction with reporting from our newsgathering desk with speed and accuracy.
- Write and maintain live blogs, both for coverage of long-term news, such as regional conflicts overseas, or events with limited time spans, such as a congressional hearing or active shooter situation.
- Work with our Audience Development team to identify and write trending pieces.
- Pitch and complete general assignment/enterprise stories when time allows.
- Identify fresh, engaging story ideas, angles and sources.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- At least 3 years news writing experience, preferably Breaking News.
- Ability to write clean copy on a deadline and pivot between news events.
- Experience with web publishing, SEO and AP style.
- Track record of collaborating with reporters and editors of all experience levels in a fast-paced newsroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with writing/maintaining live blogs is also a plus.
Education:
- BA or BS from a 4-year accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
Preferred Education:
- Master’s degree in journalism from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
Additional Information:
The role is based at the ABC News headquarters in New York City, with team members currently working a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote days. The hours are generally 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Sunday through Thursday, though the hours may shift occasionally depending on coverage needs.

The hiring range for this position in New York is $78,800- $108,300 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
