This Opportunity
WSP USA Buildings, Inc., an award winning and innovative multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm, is looking for a Building Technology Systems Digital Network Engineer to join our national Systems Integration practice. Locations considered include San Francisco, CA; Houston, TX and Boulder, CO for this hybrid position. Other locations considered. WSP works closely with architects, engineers and property developers from around the world on large, complex projects with a focus on sustainability and energy performance of the built environment.

You will actively participate in the complete project cycle, from the design phase through the final construction close-out. WSP offers excellent growth opportunities. Our Engineers are subject matter experts who can effectively communicate and coordinate technical topics with owners, architects, other engineers, contractors and vendors. The network design aspect of this role is specifically for a network design architect position and not a network administrator or network support position.
Your Impact
  • Provide designs for project networks with respect to WAN/LAN/WLAN, VLANs, VPNs, internet access, remote access services, wireless connectivity, directory services, network security, common network services, VOIP telephony.
  • Ensure that the network infrastructure is optimally architected and designed with implementation oversight services for 3rd party network integrator installations and configurations.
  • Research and validate technical capabilities of smart building technologies (facility control systems, building analytic platforms, energy consumption and sustainability reporting tools, computational modeling etc.) in terms of their network requirements in order to support their operations on a converged platform.
  • Research and design data collection and data exchange methodologies as part of Integrated Automation design projects.
  • Develops the network infrastructure design so that it enables effective interoperability among various enterprise systems and other resources.
  • Coordinate technical design solutions with client stakeholders, design teams, vendors.
  • Create design narratives and coordinated, construction documents (Drawings and CSI Specifications).
  • Complete deliverables including technical drawings in coordination with REVIT/CAD production staff.
  • Participate in project meetings (local and out-of-town) with the design team and clients.
  • Participate in construction meetings, review and respond to Technology system submittals and RFIs
  • Perform site surveys to document construction progress.
  • Develop high level design (HLD) and low level design (LLD) network documents complete with VLAN, QoS, port schedules, POE calculations and bandwidth calculations.
  • Develop specifications, BOM and cost estimates for new designs for software, hardware and services.
  • Understanding of local and national codes and industry standards (NEC, IBC, NFPA, BICSI, EIA/TIA) related to the design and operation of Security and Telecommunications systems.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • Possess a four-year degree (B.S. in engineering is preferred) or equivalent combination of technical degree and related work experience designing technology systems for buildings.
  • 2-3 years' experience actively designing network systems for the AEC industry.
  • Integrator or specialty consultant experience would also be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP layer 2 technologies and layer 3 routing technologies, such as EIGRP and OSPF, and other protocols such as H.323, SIP.
  • Knowledge of the large hardware manufacturer's product lines (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, HP/Aruba, Xirrus, Palo Alto, F5 Networks etc.).
  • Revit experience desired.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel).
  • Experience working directly with clients including architects and building owners.
  • Knowledge of digital communication technologies and protocols.
  • Understanding of physical and virtual machine architectures.
  • Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP layer 2 technologies and layer 3 routing technologies.
  • Working knowledge of multi-tier applications and their inter-dependencies including cloud hosting and web services.
  • Knowledge of information systems security concepts, standards, technologies, and system architecture.
Soft-skill Qualifications:
  • Resourceful self-starter with the ability to work productively on multiple projects, simultaneously, and under strict deadlines.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to organize and present design information to clients.
  • Ability to interact with and engage 3rd party vendors on behalf of WSP's clients as projects are delivered.
  • Ability to conduct presentations to WSP clients.
  • Participation in industry events as a speaker.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Design of integrated intelligent building systems for Smart Buildings is a plus.
  • Scripting, programming, and API experience is a plus.
  • Industry certification (ASIS CPP, BICSI RCDD, AVIXA (InfoComm) CTS/-D, Cisco CCNA, etc.) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications structured cabling systems is a major plus.
    Design experience related to Electronic Security systems, Building Automation Systems, Audiovisual, DAS is a plus but not required.

Compensation
Expected Salary (all locations): $69,600 - $105,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $69,600-100,000
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
