Caterpillar is seeking a Digital Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Peoria, IL. In this role, you will lead a small team of Digital Manufacturing engineers and provide guidance to establish the necessary requirements for cost effective Digital Manufacturing processes, tools, and technologies.

This role is primarily responsible for the continuing development of Earthmoving Division’s Digital Manufacturing strategy and deployment of new Digital Manufacturing technologies and systems across the Earthmoving network. This position requires a high degree of skill and expertise in leading global, cross functional (Operations, IT, Mfg. Engineering, Safety, and Quality) teams and implementing complex projects. You will work with key partners to capture requirements and continuously improve the look and feel of the digital systems covering all aspects of manufacturing technology. Current areas of focus are digital performance management, connected front-line worker, automation, connected assets/IoT, and factory digital twin.

Success in this role will be measured against on-time and on-budget delivery of Digital Manufacturing technologies and systems projects to the required level of maturity, and ability to influence Caterpillar IT and other partners to achieve project milestones, and level of adoption of digital solutions. These projects will deliver the digital tools and supporting rules that are essential for the successful production of components and machines within Earthmoving’s factories.

This position reports to the global Assembly, Test, and Paint Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Earthmoving Operations. 

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Developing and maintaining a team capable of achieving objectives and supporting manufacturing operations.
  • Managing development, implementation and continual improvement of the operating methods, equipment, systems and other operating infrastructure used to realize operating goals and objectives.
  • Continue to build and refine the Earthmoving Division Digital Manufacturing strategy.
  • Lead the execution of the strategy by effectively communicating the vision and supporting the change by deploying digital solutions in factories and across the Earthmoving network.
  • Support and lead Digital Manufacturing projects at the facility and division level.
  • Collaborate with Construction Industries peers and other parts of the enterprise to develop and deploy digital solutions.
  • Collaborate with facilities supporting deployment of their local digital strategy.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Jud g ment and Decision Making: Knowledge of the decision-making process; ability to carefully evaluate the impact of emerging business situations and choose the best path forward communicating actions and activities that maximize organizational performance.
  • Manu facturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing.
  • Manu facturing Processes: Knowledge of existing product manufacturing methods, digital solutions, technologies and processes; ability to execute, plan, manage and monitor the integration of digital technologies and the entire manufacturing process.
  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (Engineering or a relevant discipline)
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Strong customer focus and ability to influence other organizations and
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills in a globally diverse environment
  • Experience working with key technologies in automation, digital solutions in a manufacturing environment, connected assets (IoT: Internet of Things), data analytics
