Digital Journalist - Hickory, Nc

Lee Enterprises is hiring an ambitious, digitally-focused reporter to deliver hyperlocal journalism for the Hickory Daily Record in Hickory, North Carolina.
The person filling this job will join a team of talented journalists who work in concert to cover Hickory, a city of 40,000 nestled in the foothills of the state, and the four surrounding counties. We are about 45 miles from Charlotte, a short drive to the mountains and approximately 4 hours from the Atlantic Ocean.
The Hickory Daily Record is a place to come and grow. The last two reporters who left our team moved into coveted positions within Lee Enterprises.
The right candidate will:

• Demonstrate an eye for enterprising story ​angles and the ability to write compelling features
• Understand how to shoot and edit video
• Have a passion for local news and the communities that depend on it
• Be able to show their ability to build an online audience
• Enjoy collaborating with reporters across the state to tell bigger stories and tackle significant issues
• Maintain high ethical standards
• Have a solid grasp of grammar and spelling

Other things that will be helpful in this role:

• Ability to shoot photographs
• Experience in driving digital subscriptions
• Basic understanding of news analytics
