About The Role  

The Digital Forensics (DFOR) Lab Associate will be responsible for a wide range of tasks across FTI's multiple forensic labs across the United States, Canada, and to a certain extent globally.  Concurrent with these responsibilities, the Associate will be exposed to training and hands-on experience which may provide them with the opportunity to progress to a consultant level position. The Associate will play a key role in preparing and enabling DFOR Consultants to service and solve the challenging technical requests posed by FTI's clients. Specifically, the Associate will specialize in managing FTI's remote data collection capabilities and overseeing the logistics entailed.

  • Able to travel when requested. Regularly scheduled trips to other U.S./Canadian labs expected. 

  • When not traveling, a physical local office presence is expected. Remote work/flexibility is possible, but a consistent in person lab presence is important for this role. 

 

 

What You'll Do 

  • Work directly with senior Technology Segment practice leads to help mature and standardize the segment's Global Digital Forensic related operations. 

  •  

    Coordinate remote Digital Forensic Data Collections  

o   Works with DFOR and E-Discovery project teams to ensure the highest level of customer service is provided to our customers. 

o   Manage hard drive inventories and track Chain of Custody (CoC) of devices. 

o   Prepare remote collection toolkits and manage delivery to custodians. 

o   Works with internal shipping and logistics teams to track evidence and coordinate updates to project team. 

o   Receive and intake of collection toolkits and upload collected data.  

o   Ensure chain of custody CoC remains intact and tracking database is up to date. 

  •  

    Oversee U.S./Canadian Digital Forensic lab activity including: 

o   Manage and track forensic evidence and chain of custody. 

o   Monitor forensic software licenses for up-to-date versions and coordinate with internal staff to prevent license expiration.  

o   Develop, deploy, and maintain consistent documentation templates across all labs including but not limited to CoC, Acquisition Records, and Asset Tags. 

o   Track inventory levels of forensic equipment across physical labs and help to maintain those levels.  

o   Work with internal staff to maintain FTI's AWS cloud-based resources.  

  Check versions of software and make sure software is up to date for all systems. 

  Liaise with FTI's TechOps to facilitate system updates and/or reboots. 

o   Handle Matter decommissions.

  Generate backups of engagement related SharePoint sites. 

  Check for client drives which need to be returned and work with Consultants to generate, label and handle COCs (DocuSign) 

  Coordinate destruction vendor to come onsite. 

o   Manage Internal team documentation including DFOR Wiki's and MS Team Sites.

o   Participate in the testing of various Digital Forensic software and tools. 

o   Generating new Consultant codes for new hires. 

o   Manage inventory and ensure tracking records are consistent across all DFOR labs in North America. 

  Schedule periodic "in lab" Quality Assurance (QA)checks.  This may require visiting labs in NY, DC, Chicago, Houston, SF, LA, etc.  

  Work with Consultants to provide guidance on evidence inventory management and weekly spot checks.  

o   Perform monthly OS and software checks on all DFOR U.S. physical lab workstations.

o   Maintain "base builds" for all laptop data collection "field kits" and roll out updated builds every 6 months, or as needed. 

  Stay "plugged in" to and monitor the evolving Digital Forensic marketplace and suggest new tools to allow the broader team to work efficiently. 

o   Contact vendors and set up demos for the wider DFOR team.  

  Work with the DFOR Consultants to continue to develop and automate internal processes so as to be able to deliver work more effectively.

The Associate will have the opportunity to gain a wide range of experiences and skills across the full spectrum of service lines with FTI Consulting's Technology Segment offers. While fulfilling the coordination duties of the forensic lab, the Associate will gain exposure to various training opportunities and be set on a path to potentially become a full-time FTI Technology Segment Consultant. The person in this role will have the opportunity to inject new and creative solutions into the day-to-day support of client matters.  

 

What You Will Need to Succeed 

Basic Qualifications

        Bachelor's Degree.

        Relevant coursework or experience in Digital Forensics, Electronic Discovery, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related disciplines .

        This role requires travel to clients and FTI offices. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

        Experience in evidence tracking, lab management, software licensing management, etc. 

        Experience in Evidence Handling, Digital Forensics, Electronic Discovery, Litigation Support, Information Systems, or other relevant experience. 

        Familiarity with the Federal Rules of Evidence and understanding of the concept of Chain of Custody. 

        Experience with EnCase, Axiom, Cellebrite, X-Ways, Oxygen, Blacklight, Forensic Toolkit (FTK), NUIX, Relativity, and/or open source (Linux) forensic tools.
