TEGNA's FOX affiliate in Hartford, Connecticut, FOX61 Connecticut's News Station, is searching for aDigital Content Producer, who will thrive in a fast-paced environment, is an avid news consumer, and enjoys being on the cutting edge of digital and social media. The candidate should have an audience-first approach to writing, producing, and distributing content on FOX61's media platforms.
This is a journalism-oriented role that will distribute content digitally to reach our audience whenever and wherever it is - on whatever device it is using at the time. You should take the initiative in creating content around key digital drivers -breaking news, weather, sports, politics, and user-generated content - that engage the audience.
Qualified candidates should be strong journalists above all, with the ability to write quickly, accurately, and succinctly. They should also have solid news judgment and experience producing and copy-editing content for digital platforms. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, familiarity with digital metrics, video and photo editing skills, and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including early morning, weekend, and occasional holiday shifts.
This individual will report to the Director of Digital Content.
Responsibilities

  • Write and publish original and breaking news content using an online Content Management System (CMS)
  • Produce digital first, engaging storytelling through articles, videos, photo galleries, and social media
  • Copy edit stories for correct grammar, content, and structure that adhere to AP Style
  • Curate and schedule content on all FOX61 platforms, including website, mobile app, social media, and our streaming platform FOX61+
  • Work with all newsroom departments on content coverage, broadcast-digital coordination, and social listening
  • Use analytics tools including Google Looker Studio, Google Trends, and Taboola Newsroom to help lead content strategy
  • Perform other tasks as required by your supervisor

Job Requirements:
  • Two years of experience working as a digital producer or digital journalist
  • Strong news and editorial judgment and understand the tenets of professional journalism
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Strong knowledge of AP style and copy editing
  • Experience using an online CMS, photo, and video editing software
  • Skills in producing engaging, audience-driven content
  • Strong social media skills on platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter)
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Understanding of copyright law, music rights, and basic journalism legal principals
  • BS/BA in journalism, communications, broadcast, digital media, or related field
  • Keen interest in emerging digital trends and evolving consumption habits
  • Knowledgeable and/or curious about weather reporting
  • Travel: Rarely: less than 10%
  • Work Environment Set: Office: normally performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Physical Demands Set: Sedentary work: Involves sitting most of the time; walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
