Job Summary and Qualifications

The Children’s Wellness Dietitian is a clinical expert in pediatric nutrition and counseling. Providing community consultative services for organizations serving children, education for healthcare professionals and individual consultation, as needed, for children and their families. Works collaboratively with the Children’s Wellness Coordinator and medical director to establish and grow the regional wellness program.

Complies with the Memorial Health Compliance Program, related policies and procedures and the Code of Business Practices; reports instances of perceived and actual non-compliance to Team Leader or through other reporting mechanisms.

Clinical Excellence: Applies in depth knowledge of normal pediatric nutrition when performing assessments. Anticipates implications of the disease and therapy in the development of a nutritional plan. Individualizes nutrition counseling and education to meet the needs of the child and family. Develops evidence based educational materials as needed, Utilizes in depth knowledge and experience to critically evaluate those interventions that will be most successful in promoting positive outcomes.

Growth Excellence: Communicates and demonstrates best practice interventions to medical staff on defined patient population. Facilitates nursing research initiatives within the organization. Serves as resource for development of evidence-based protocols and care guidelines. Directly responsible for the facilitation and teaching classes. Directly responsible for facilitating community outreach, through lecture series and community education. Tracks year to year growth for referrals and outreach activities.

People Excellence: Demonstrates superior written and verbal skills. Serves as a role model for staff, customers, and physicians. Participates in assigned hospital/department committees. Identifies and recommends changes in processes or design that improves patient care and/or organizational outcomes/efficiency. Provides expertise in collaboration with members of other disciplines and physicians.

INITIATIVE (INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION)

Three decisions made / duties performed without review/approval by a supervisor or other reviewer.

1. Assessment of nutritional status and nutritional education in complicated patients

2. When appropriate, provide prompt written identification and communication of the potential presence of malnutrition to the health care team.

3. Initiation of a performance improvement program in one’s area that improves current practices.

Three decisions on which consultation with, or approval from, a supervisor would be sought.

1. The procurement of a specialized no-formulary product

2. Off-campus events for continuing education, speaking engagements

3. Vacation requests.


What qualifications you will need:
  • Commission Dietetic Registration
  • Bachelors Degree Required/ Master's Degree Preferred  
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience 
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and currently license for the state of Georgia.

  • Specialty certification in relevant field. Ongoing maintenance of specialty certification required. For specialty certifications not requiring recertification, continued competency in specialty area Must be evident. For dietitians practicing in specialty areas in which a certification is not offered If a minimum of 50% continuing education hours is obtained in his/her area of specialty over a 5-year period, this may be considered equivalent to a specialty certification.
