Overview:

The Dietetic Technician is responsible for resident and participant nutrition care planning, implementation and evaluation under the supervision and guidance of the Registered Dietitian. The Dietetic Technician is a contributing member of the interdisciplinary team in establishing and implementing the interdisciplinary care plan.

 

Responsibilities:

Job duties specific to this position:

  • Responsible for preventing waste by creating individual meal patterns that are developed by residents and
  • Complies with all corporate policies and procedures, and adheres to federal, state and other sanitation guidelines.
  • Accurately completes nutrition assessments, as assigned.
  • Assists Dietitian in assessment of weight loss/gain of residents and
  • Completes required documentation thoroughly, accurately, and promptly (i.e., nutrition assessments, weight logs, enrollment sheets, admission and discharge, etc.).
  • Assists Dietitian in screening of residents or participants. May recommend diet requirements on initial admission into facility program. Reviews hospital discharge information when available. Coordinates resident's and participant’s meal selection in accordance with personal preference and diet regimes. Follows up with new enrollees/admissions regarding nutrition plan of care/acceptance.
  • Performs intake/output assessments through observation at mealtimes and documents findings.
  • Reviews and assesses lab data, taking action as required.
  • Reports any potential nutritional concerns to the Registered Dietitian. Assists Dietitian in the follow-up of nutrition complaints or concern Makes modifications as appropriate.
  • Assists with menu planning and recipe analysis. Communicates resident and participant comments regarding meal acceptance.
  • Ensures meals and snacks are served per planned menus.
  • Acts as a liaison and communicates updates regarding nutrition and resident/participant plans within and between main campus and other locations.
  • Responsible for the training and orientation of newly employed staff and newly employed Dietetic Technicians and Clinical Dietitians. Conducts training for staff members on nutrition and dining programs.
  • May provide diet counseling to residents or participants, resident/participant families, friends and staff regarding dietary restrictions.
  • Participates in the Nutrition Quality Assurance Program, surveys, audits and correction plans.
  • Maintains resident/participant profiles in the dining software system.
  • Acts as preceptor to dietetic students from area colleges/universities.

Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years clinical or food service experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a long term/acute care organization.
  • Associates degree in food service or nutrition related field.
  • Dietetic technician registration is desirable.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with participants, residents, and families from diverse backgrounds who may have physical, sensory and mental impairments. Strong oral and written communications skills required.
  • Basic computer skills required and the ability to learn new software applications.
