Job description

Assist, support, and coordinate with Maintenance staff in identifying training needs for OD technicians. Interact with OD Maintenance team to design course content related to applications, using this information to prepare easy to understand training material (class agenda, instructional materials, and training aids). Conduct training classes for OD users on applications provided by OD Maintenance. Ensure compliance with corporate practices and procedures. Interact with departments and service center management in scheduling programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instruct Old Dominion training courses as assigned. Instruct only company-approved material keeping within all company guidelines.
  • Develop Old Dominion training guides and courses as assigned. Seek self-improvement to be a subject matter expert for assigned areas of training. Continually research new technology relating to repair and maintaining of equipment. Recommend improvements to current training.
  • Coordinate training dates and times with locations. Audit training records and update company training records for assigned locations. Coordinate vendor training as assigned for locations and update company records.
  • Provide all the materials needed for each class and ensure needed tools or necessary equipment is present at a location for ease of training. Practice and prepare for instructing a class to ensure knowledgeable of all course content.
  • Keep an up-to-date organized schedule of all OD & vendor training events for assigned areas and submit plans as required.
  • Assist with any duties assigned or needed by the Director of Maintenance, Vice-President of Maintenance, or Asset & Training Manager when necessary.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred or experience may be considered in place of college

Experience:

  • 15 or more years combined experience in the Maintenance Field
  • Willingness and seeks self-improvement
  • Read accurately and with comprehension
  • Orally communicate concepts and instructions
  • Write legibly
  • PC and computer hardware knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Knowledge of equipment and maintenance practices
  • Multi tasking abilities

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

(Standing) 9-11 Hours/shift, 5-7 days per week while monitoring, mentoring and coaching employees and inspecting job performance to determine needs in the area.

(Sitting) 0-4 Hours/shift to prepare shift reports, quality reports, productions reports and to enter data into the computer and to answer the telephone.

(Moving Self) Able to walk on non- forgiving surfaces such as concrete, wood and metal and sometimes on wet and slippery surfaces. While transporting self continuously throughout the department and service center several times a day/shift to follow up with employees, support areas, to inspect trailers/trucks and to attend and conduct meetings, etc.

(Climbing) Stairs as necessary in the service center and occasionally in trailers to determine best way to load/unload freight.

(Moving Materials) Due to total exposure in the service center and maintenance areas, the supervisors is required to load/unload freight of any size. From 1lb to transporting/moving/ pushing/pulling up to 880 lbs, following OSHA guidelines. Must be able to load and unload full trailers of freight weighing as much as 50,000 lbs. This could involve for example moving containers to and from floor level to carts, stacks or platforms over 4 feet high, balancing 300 lb. drums rolling them into positions or stowing cartons or other merchandise overhead.

(Hearing/Speaking) Must be able to communicate verbally with all employees that may report to them as a shift supervisor, co-workers, and supervisor and by phone, some jobs require the use of a PA system.

(Reaching) Minimum arm’s length up to 7 feet to check freight stability. Must be able to frequently reach for freight/objects at waist level and occasionally reach for freight above shoulder height or below waist level.

(Lifting) Must be able to lift objects weighing in excess of 100 lbs using OSH guidelines and lifting techniques.

(Visual Acuity) Must be able to read bills of lading, computer screen, read printed material, etc.

(Bending/Stooping) Must be able to bend, twist, climb and move about easily in small spaces and from floor level to check freight, pick up waste from the floor, check for holes in the trailer floors, etc.,

(Other) Must have legible handwriting for preparing all hand written reports, fingering - uses calculator and computer 1-5 hours/day.

Must be able to read, write and speak English.

Attendance is a requirement.

Work Environment

Ability to work in extremely hot or cold climates, ability to work in an environment where noise and odors may be present.

Percentage of Travel Required: 50%
