Diesel Technician/Mechanic

We are looking for candidates with good attention to detail for the position of Diesel Technician/Mechanic. The primary duties of a Diesel Technician/Mechanic include performing diagnostic tests on diesel vehicles to find faults, analyzing diagnostic test results, and repairing or replacing engine, steering, transmission, braking or lighting system components. You will need to have an in-depth understanding of diesel engines, as well as mechanics and engineering in general. You will use analytical and critical thinking skills to find the source of the problems / malfunctions and rectify the same.
Diesel Technicians/ Mechanics need to be highly organized and communicate effectively, as they will be expected to maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles and interact with customers daily.
Diesel Technicians/Mechanics report directly to their Shop Supervisor or Shop Manager. Diesel Technicians/Mechanics are responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles to include trailers and other various equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections (including DOT inspections) and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Adhere to an inspection procedure checklist.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brakes, steering, hydraulics, making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies and performing preventative maintenance.
- Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Conducting field visits in case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
- Test driving repaired vehicles to gauge their performance.
- Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles.
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent (preferred)
- Diesel engine repair; 1 year (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- CDL (preferred)
- Some welding experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system, and the mechanisms of a diesel engine.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms.
- Knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to act professionally and with integrity.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics.
- Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software.
- Flexible team player, willing to adapt to changes and unafraid of challenges.

Job Type: Full-time – Non-Exempt
Salary: $26.00 - $32.00 an hour depending on experience
