Department: Die Shop
Reports To: Supervisor

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for Die Shop operations including all pre-make ready and machine preparation while ensuring that the pre-make ready standards are met and completed prior to end of shift shift in order to acquire quality product at the desired target speed for each run. The Die Shop specialist is a developmental role and will simultaneously be training as a Cutter Apprentice while performing Die Shop responsibilities. Preparing dies for next day production runs will be primary responsibility.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
•Complete training and development objectives as outlined in the Cutter Apprentice Training plan
•Operate die cutters during breaks and lunches to ensure continuous production and maximize efficiencies
•Prepare the pre-make ready(s) as the daily production indicates and as instructed
•Responsible for the quality of the pre-make ready with regard to proper pins, matrix, make ready sheets, gears, and wedges
•Maintains Die shop supply orders made in advance and in order such as pins, make ready sheets, die rubber and matrix paper
•Inspect the dies as you chase them and recommend corrections as needed
•Keep the work area clean and orderly, keep tools, dies, strips, etc. in their proper places
•Be responsible for all equipment and tools assigned to the job, notify the supervisor of any additional tools or equipment that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
•Follow all instructions on the work jacket concerning the Die Shop and advise the supervisor of any incorrect or non-recorded information that is necessary for proper pre-make ready
•Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation
•Perform inspection of die chases, counter plates, pin cylinders, strippers, and anvil rolls of each cutter for cleaning and maintenance
•Work with speed and accuracy in obtaining the goal of breaking down and rechasing all jobs made available on your shift
•Communicate information to other shifts and or supervisors of any daily production changes or needs
•Maintain a clean work environment including floors, desks, and fans in accordance with our 5S system

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software; requires a strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide both fractions and decimals, solve equations, read measurements, and have an understanding of both standard and metric measuring systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, regularly required to walk, stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with arms and hands, frequently is required to climb, balance, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, ability to lift/move 25 to 75 pounds. A person must be able to perform these functions for a minimum of 8 hours straight (with a 30-minute meal break any other applicable breaks during his/her shift) on a regular basis. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team member successfully performing the essential functions of this job. Regular attendance and reporting for work on time are necessary requirements as is availability for overtime work if necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Exposure to a dusty atmosphere with loud noise, which may require both eye and ear protection in some areas. Moving mechanical parts will also be exposed; safety guards have been put in place for the safety of all Team members but during set up, if a machine must be broken down and reassembled to complete the next job, questions regarding such operation should be directed to your supervisor as they arise.
