Summary
The Medical Physicist ensures meticulous and compliant use of x-ray, MRI, and ultrasound imaging equipment, with a keen emphasis on safeguarding both patient and staff safety. This role demands a rigorous adherence to quality assurance through acceptance testing, quality control testing, safety recommendation formulation, educational initiatives, and adherence to regulatory compliance within radiological practices, particularly diagnostic radiology environments.

Responsibilities*
Acceptance testing, Quality Control Testing:

Data Management and Regulatory Communication:

? Engage transparently with Modality managers regarding regulatory and accreditation topics, when needed.
Radiation Safety, Education, and Compliance:
  • Radiation Safety Recommendations: Develop, advocate, and implement radiation safety procedures across all relevant departments.
  • Educational Role: Embark on educational initiatives to ensure all relevant personnel are adept in daily, weekly, and monthly QC test procedures, and are informed of any updates or changes in protocols.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Inspection: Maintain steadfast compliance with regulatory standards and actively participate in annual scanner inspections, per The Joint Commission and/or ACR certification requirements.

Imaging QA Program Development and Collaboration:
  • Refinement and Implementation: Refine and enforce the QA program, ensuring ongoing elevation of both quality and patient safety standards.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration: Engage collaboratively with radiologists and technologists, fostering a conducive environment for constructive dialogue around image quality and safety issues.
  • Liaison with Engineers: Collaborate with field engineers in the identification of potential issues, execution of system performance/acceptance testing, and scrutiny of equipment performance trends.

Required Qualifications*
  • Educational Background: MS or Ph.D. in Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field. Graduation from a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency Program.
  • Certification: Certified by the American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics-Must be completed upon hire.
  • Experience: A robust record of experience in performing acceptance testing and quality control testing of x-ray imaging, MRI, ultrasound and PACS (display monitor) testing.
  • Skill Set: Competency in general image processing, utilizing both commercial (e.g., PACs) and open-source platforms (e.g., 3DSlicer or ITK-Snap).
  • Motivational Alignment: An intrinsic motivation to work cohesively with radiologists, technologists, and imaging scientists in a team environment.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Expertise and experience in x-ray and MRI shielding design, patient dose calculations, and artificial intelligence software testing.
  • Participation in AAPM task groups or committees on quality control in one or more imaging modality (x-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound).
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals on one or more imaging modality.

Work Schedule
Primarily Monday through Friday.

Background Screening
