The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.
The Bureau of Health Improvement and Wellness (BHIW) is comprised of programs which address prevention and improved health outcomes for Ohioans across the lifespan. The BHIW/Chronic Disease section is seeking one (1) candidate to fill our vacant Public Health Consultant role. This position will act as a consultant for the Diabetes Program.
What You'll Do:
- Provides subject matter expertise in diabetes prevention and management.
- Implements assigned workplan strategies, interventions, and activities designed to reduce morbidity and mortality related to diabetes, address risk factors, reduce disparities in diabetes care, and improve health outcomes.
- Works with contractors and partners to increase access to affordable evidence-based services for the prevention and management of diabetes.
- Initiates contracts and provides technical assistance for contractors working on diabetes prevention and management strategies.
- Assists in preparing competitive and continuation applications to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Assists in preparing required CDC documents.
- Works with other program staff and evaluation contractor to assess and incorporate evaluation findings into program planning.
- Develops contractor request for proposal and announcement of availability of funding to interested providers.
- Monitors progress on contract deliverables.
- Reviews and approves contract invoices.
- Assists program manager in the development of policy, codes, regulations and legislation to protect the health of the public and to guide the practice of Public Health.

- 6 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a Public Health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups;

- Completion of undergraduate core coursework in Public Health, health care, health administration or related field; must be able to provide own transportation.
- 18 mos. exp. in providing direct service &/or consultation in a Public Health, community health, hospital &/or clinic setting, to include exp. in program evaluation, grant review, developing & presenting training programs & in facilitating &/or working collaboratively with coalitions or groups;

- Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
