ABOUT PARK BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND VISIT GALVESTON
In 1963, the citizens of Galveston voted to create a specialized unit of government called the Park Board of Trustees of the City of Galveston. The organization is responsible for overseeing Galveston's tourism efforts, Galveston Island Beach Patrol (GIPB) and Coastal Zone Management (CZM). The Park Board is funded primarily through Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) and beach user fees for the six parks that they manage. Tourism pays for tourism as no sales or property tax is collected by the Park Board. The nine-member board is comprised of volunteer residents with diverse business backgrounds. Each is required to serve at least two years and must also serve on one of the Park Board's advisory committees.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DESTINATION EXPERT
As a Destination Expert, you play a vital role in the operations of our organization. You act as the first point of contact for people visiting the Galveston Island Visitor Information Center and Visit Galveston. When visitors enter or call, you cheerfully greet them. You are the expert on all the best local sights and activities. As you talk to each person, you answer their questions and recommend specific locations and attractions. Your ultimate goal is to help visitors become temporary locals who experience shareable moments and create lasting impressions.
Additionally, you ensure that all the publications and brochures we display are stocked. When materials become outdated, you dispose of them. If our inventory is low, you notify the supervisor. You also keep all areas of the visitor centers clean and uncluttered. You love working with people and get great satisfaction from helping them to have the best possible trip!
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DESTINATION EXPERT
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to receive training to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador
- Data entry experience
Experience in a customer service role is preferred. Do you have excellent communication skills? Are you a problem solver? Do you have good phone manners? WORK SCHEDULE FOR A DESTINATION EXPERT
This customer service position is part-time and typically works shifts between the hours of 8:30 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Friday, but special events may require earlier or later start and end times. The ideal applicant for this travel advisor position is able to work holidays, weekends, and special events as needed.
