Job Summary:
The Desktop Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues, and ensuring the smooth operation of desktop systems. This role involves troubleshooting problems, installing and configuring software and hardware, and assisting with IT-related projects.
Responsibilities:
User Support:
  • Respond to and resolve technical issues raised by end-users via phone, email, or in-person
  • Provide assistance with hardware and software problems, diagnosing and troubleshooting issues
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop systems, software applications, and peripherals

Hardware and Software Maintenance:
  • Conduct regular maintenance on desktops, laptops, and related equipment
  • Perform hardware upgrades and replacements as necessary
  • Install and update software applications, ensuring compliance with licensing agreements

Technical Troubleshooting:
  • Identify and resolve technical problems related to operating systems, applications, and network connectivity
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to escalate and resolve complex issues

Documentation:
  • Document and maintain records of technical configurations, procedures, and user-related information
  • Create user guides and training materials for common technical issues.

Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and enforce security measures to protect computer systems and data
  • Ensure compliance with IT policies, procedures, and best practices

User Training:
  • Provide training and assistance to end-users on the use of hardware and software
  • Educate users about best practices for security and data protection

Remote Support:
  • Assist remote users with technical issues through remote desktop tools or other communication methods
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues for users working in different locations

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university Information Technology, Computer
    Science, or related field (or equivalent work
  • 1-3 years of experience in Desktop Support or a related role
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and
    technical procedures
  • Able to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers,
    clients, customers and the general public
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and MacOS
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25
    pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician)
