Overview

As a Desktop Engineer at Veritex Community Bank, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping our technological landscape. This hybrid position offers flexibility, allowing both office and remote work, while ensuring our desktop environment remains optimized, secure, and compliant. Your core focus is on Tanium, an advanced endpoint management tool. You'll dive into its modules to maintain real-time control over our desktops, enhancing performance and security. Leading software packaging, enforcing security policies, and managing vulnerabilities are all part of your responsibilities. You'll also manage Tanium, Microsoft SCCM, and Intune for software deployment and mobile device management, ensuring endpoint security. Optimization, meticulous documentation, top-tier support, and policy development are on your list. Your proactive approach and commitment to customer service will shine as you navigate our dynamic desktop environment. 

Responsibilities

Endpoint Management and Security: 

  • Utilize Tanium modules to gain real-time visibility and control over our desktop environment, ensuring its performance and security.
  • Lead the software packaging process, creating standardized and efficient installations of applications.
  • Implement and enforce security policies and compliance standards, proactively assessing and remediating vulnerabilities.
  • Take charge of patch management, swiftly deploying critical updates to mitigate security risks.
  • Generate vulnerability reports and conduct regular assessments, collaborating with security teams to prioritize and address potential threats.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of desktop hardware and software for effective asset management.

Desktop Infrastructure Optimization and User Support: 

  • Harness Tanium and Microsoft InTune for streamlined software deployment, configuration management, and system updates.
  • Administer Microsoft InTune for secure and compliant mobile device management, enhancing endpoint security.
  • Continuously optimize desktop configurations, prioritizing performance, security, and user experience.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of desktop configurations and procedures, ensuring accessibility to relevant teams.
  • Provide top-tier desktop support, promptly resolving hardware and software issues for end-users.
  • Collaborate across teams to align desktop configurations with business objectives.
  • Participate in evaluating and deploying new desktop technologies, staying ahead of industry trends.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure development, enhancing desktop efficiency and security.
  • Conduct end-user training sessions to boost digital literacy.
  • Partner with procurement teams to manage hardware and software acquisitions, ensuring licensing and budget compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve complex desktop incidents, documenting root causes and implementing preventive measures.
  • Monitor desktop performance, proactively identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with security teams to assess desktop security and implement necessary controls.
  • Assist in developing disaster recovery and business continuity plans for desktop systems.

Tanium Expertise and Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as the in-house Tanium expert, leveraging its modules to their full potential for endpoint management and security.
  • Continuously optimize and fine-tune Tanium deployments to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with security teams to develop and maintain robust threat detection and incident response capabilities within Tanium.
  • Create custom Tanium dashboards and reports to monitor and analyze endpoint data, providing actionable insights for security and compliance.
  • Implement and manage Tanium sensors, queries, and packages to ensure endpoint visibility and control.
  • Stay updated on the latest Tanium features and capabilities, incorporating them into the desktop environment for maximum benefit.
  • Lead the integration of Tanium with other security and management tools, streamlining workflows and enhancing overall security posture.
  • Proactively identify and address Tanium-related issues or bottlenecks, ensuring the platform's stability and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and enforce Tanium security policies and compliance standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for Tanium configurations, procedures, and best practices, facilitating knowledge sharing among team members.
  • Train and mentor junior staff members on Tanium usage and best practices.

ServiceNow Integration and Management: 

  • Seamlessly integrate Tanium with our ServiceNow ITSM platform for efficient incident, problem, and change management.
  • Collaborate with ITSM teams to ensure prompt resolution of desktop-related incidents, problems, and change requests.
  • Leverage ServiceNow ITOM to create and manage assets within the Service Catalog, ensuring streamlined and user-friendly service offerings.
  • Maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) within ServiceNow ITOM, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of desktop configurations and relationships.
  • Collaborate with ITSM and ITOM teams to implement best practices for service catalog management and CMDB accuracy.

Work with ITSM teams to implement automated workflows and processes for incident and change management, improving efficiency and responsiveness. 

Qualifications

Job Skills and Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you should bring: 

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft products, including Windows OS and Office suites.
  • Proficiency in SCCM, Tanium, and Intune for desktop management.
  • Knowledge of software packaging and deployment best practices.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance standards and the ability to enforce policies.
  • Experience in patch management and vulnerability assessment.
  • Understanding of asset management principles and practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Requirements: 

To excel in this role as a Desktop Engineer, you should meet the following requirements: 

  • Be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, as some hardware-related tasks may require physical effort.
  • This role requires a minimum of four days in the office per week, ensuring active participation in our dynamic work environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Additional Information: 

This job is a hybrid position with a requirement to work a minimum of 3 to 4 days in-office per week. The remainder of the time can be worked remotely. Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours and respond to after-hours emergency situations as needed.
