Description:
We are looking for someone with a deep background in the Windows operating systems. Ideally the Windows client OS, although many skills will be transferable from server / desktop and/or workstation. Candidate must be a fast learner and have a passion for teaching others. This position is primarily focused on Windows Desktop performance in a VDI / XenApp environment with strong knowledge in Windows OS, Windows performance metrics, Application Performance diagnostics / troubleshooting and networking. The position is highly technical and hands-on. The candidate should have very strong technical foundation as well as a strategic mindset, good communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with others.
Overview
* Help get the best performance possible in a Windows virtualized environment.
* Grow the overall team understanding of Windows including tools and techniques required to measure and analyze performance.
* Work hand in hand with the Desktop/ Virtualization / Remote Access and SCCM teams to uncover new techniques for accelerating desktop performance and adoption of VDI and server-based applications running in a terminal service / XenApp environment
* Work closely with the teams to identify architectural changes / optimizations vital to get extreme performance from the Microsoft OS.
* Propose changes to memory, storage systems, I/O systems, file systems and operating system scheduling that improve performance.
* Conduct system performance testing to ensure system reliability, capacity and scalability
* Analyze test results and coordinate with development teams for bug fixes
* Analyze root causes of performance issues and provide corrective actions
* Review and recommend improvements to existing test procedures
* Report defects found in testing diligently, promptly, and accurately
* Compare and contrast system performance with varying levels of system resources (RAM, CPU cores, disk caches, network and compute nodes)
* Windows Desktop General Engineering and Hardware evaluation
* Creation of desktop, laptops and virtual machine performance baselines for the Windows Desktop

1. **Enterprise Windows Expertise:**
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems within an enterprise context.
- Optimize Windows desktop configurations, group policies, and settings to enhance performance and security.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline Windows desktop deployments and management.
2. **Tanium Integration and Utilization:**
- Showcase expertise in Tanium, leveraging its capabilities for real-time visibility and control over desktop endpoints.
- Utilize Tanium for performance analysis, monitoring, and fine-tuning to maximize efficiency.
- Implement automated remediation actions within Tanium for addressing performance issues.
3. **Desktop Performance Enhancement:**
- Identify and proactively resolve performance bottlenecks and issues across our large-scale enterprise desktop environment.
- Ensure efficient resource management, including CPU, memory, and disk, while adhering to best practices.
- Implement performance optimizations based on Tanium insights.
4. **Security and Compliance:**
- Seamlessly integrate Tanium into security and compliance strategies, ensuring desktops meet industry standards and internal policies.
- Collaborate closely with cybersecurity teams to implement security measures without compromising performance.
- Leverage Tanium for vulnerability assessments and automated remediation.
5. **Application Management:**
- Oversee application packaging, distribution, and compatibility testing, optimizing software deployment using Tanium.
- Resolve complex application-related performance issues through Tanium-driven solutions.
- Implement Tanium-based strategies for software management and updates.
6. **Troubleshooting and Support:**
- Provide advanced technical support for desktop performance-related incidents.
- Investigate and resolve hardware and software challenges efficiently.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base for performance-related solutions.
7. **Documentation and Reporting:**
- Maintain detailed documentation of desktop configurations, Tanium implementations, and performance enhancements.
- Generate and present regular reports on desktop performance and optimization efforts.
**Qualifications:**
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 10 years of experience as a Desktop Engineer, with a strong focus on optimizing Windows desktop performance in enterprise environments and utilizing Tanium.
- Proficiency in Windows desktop operating systems, performance tuning tools, and Tanium solutions.
- Certifications such as MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure and Tanium certifications are highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
