Description
Job Summary:
The Design Engineer directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects. This position is responsible for taking a design from concept to production.
Job Duties:

  • Responsible for providing design assistance and administrative engineering support.
  • Design 3-dimensional models, prototypes, detailed drawings, and assist in documentation for product compliance.
  • Generate bills of material (BOM). assisting in defining product specifications to obtain design approval and preparing new part and tooling quotes.
  • Communicate with current and potential customers on product design and improvements.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials, and parts.
  • Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods amend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Assist in estimating costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs. This will require the use of our standard costs and overhead costs for all new quotes.
  • Comply with all GMP's
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
  • Prefer but not required, three to five years of designing parts for injection and blow molding with solid ability to deliver a robust engineering design.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering preferred but not required. Will consider combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess SolidWorks experience, with the ability to manipulate CAD data. Part and assembly modeling ability.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerances.
  • Knowledge in the Stage Gate process, APQP, and FMEA a plus.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching on a regular basis, all day. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type:
This is a part-time, less than 30 hours per week position. The hours are flexible based on a school schedule. No benefits provided.
